Technology@lemmy.world•Metaverse hype fizzles out as Korean tech giants pull plugEnglish
0·1 year agoI always thought this metaverse crap was just an obvious money-making scheme that preyed on isolated people during COVID-19. They only started developing their metaverse platforms during the pandemic. Of course they all failed to capitalize because the world largely returned to normal while they were still flaunting NFTs and unfinished metaverse platforms that still can’t do better than a private Minecraft SMP with your friends.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Tankies: A Data-driven Understanding of Left-Wing Extremists on RedditEnglish
1·1 year agoIt’s problematic for Lemmy that the .ml instance gives the impression of a flagship instance since it’s run by the devs. It gives the fediverse as a whole a bad look to outsiders. I speak from experience because it was one of the three recommended to me before I left Reddit.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft is reportedly banning Palestinians in the U.S. for life for calling relatives in GazaEnglish
0·2 years agoI don’t understand why it’s so mainstream to equate Palestine with Hamas. It’s as if there is an actual conspiracy going on to to support this genocide. Is it because it’s so easy to say you’re antiemetic if you oppose “the Jews”?

Technology@lemmy.world•Jack Dorsey claims Bluesky is 'repeating all the mistakes' he made at TwitterEnglish
1·2 years agoThe fact that Bluesky has some form of content moderation and has occasionally banned users for things like using racial slurs in their usernames.
Actually, Jack Dorsey may be the problem. Good to see him shift focus to that “free speech”, pro-cryptocurrency platform Nostr. I see it like a containment zone for the worst people.

Luigi Mangione represents an idea that is uncomfortable to certain people in power. It’s okay to attribute millions of deaths to Hitler when he gives the order to kill and condones the decisions his subordinates make to carry out that order. But they don’t want to let the poors normalize the idea that a healthcare CEO should be considered similarly responsible for many intentional deaths when he gives the order to deny as many claims as possible especially when they are clearly valid and urgently needed. Brian Thompson is responsible for many deaths. It’s not fair to say he isn’t just because he didn’t kill directly with a gun.
