I’m not sure I’d be comfortable with my landlord harvesting my vomit as rent.
“I’m eating it, I promise it’s not a sex thing.”
Yup. As someone who’s worked a lot on ships all over the world, I can tell you that waves can be deceiving. It can look like everything is normal, but suddenly the ships roll and pitch will perfectly time a slightly larger swell which then gets to wash in over deck.
It is worth noting that the ships themselves have no problem handling this. They’re designed so that any water that washes over the deck gets drained out and doesn’t go into the interior. Whoever is on those decks is another story though. Just because your feet are dry, don’t assume they will remain so.

Technology@lemmy.zip•MPA says no more “Whac-a-Mole” with pirate sites, claims it took down “mothership”English
1·2 years agoYeah, so they took down Fmovies and in turn some other sites under their umbrella. If they believe that is a significant blow to piracy, I’m afraid their whack-a-mole game wasn’t even that good to begin with.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•"During a gold rush, sell shovels" - What are some other examples of this?
0·2 years agoI was thinking that, but figured I’d go for input data instead for the sake of variation.

I for one really appreciate the effort of supporting non-AT drives despite the initial skepticism.
Ran into this when I chose a password for my new work e-mail. As my employer is Chinese, error messages show up in mandarin, so it took me a while to understand what the problem was: Must be between 9 and 16 characters long.

politics @lemmy.world•'Dump those traitors': MAGA fans revolt and demand Trump fire top campaign managers
0·2 years agoBasically, it’s a term used for infighting in a group/cult stemming from one or more members being pointed to as straying from the original cause. It often happens when one group sees another group within the same crowd as not pure enough. The first sign of this in this particular context was when Maga started referring to many supportive Republicans as Rinos.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If Trump loses in 2024, do you think he'll run again in 2028?
0·2 years agoI’m leaning towards “no”. His fragile ego will have taken two nasty blows in a row. Plus in four years he’ll be even older and more fragile, and it’s already pretty bad.
If I’m right, I’m sure he’ll endorse some other maga-clown instead.
GNU plus Unix, ackshually. Linux had nothing to do with it.
In other words: GNU’s not Unix + Unix.
The sequels aren’t bad because they’re woke (are they woke, though?), they’re bad because they’re bad.
For example, I think Daisy Ridley played the part very well, and the character fit in the overarching universe. But the plot was awful and predictable.
And somehow Palpatine returned.
EDIT/ADDITION for emphasis: I loved the acting. Especially Finn. I didn’t find Kylo Ren to be a believable character, but Adam Driver did a great job regardless. Everyone did a great job with Ep VII, except the writers and Disney execs.
As an ordained dudeist priest, I think dudeism should be placed somewhere. I don’t care hard enough where, because that’s just like, your opinion, man.
I think so too. My kids are around the age I was when I first started tinkering with PCs, but they don’t have any awareness of what’s going on under the hood, (to be frank, nor do they seem to need it, as everything is so polished these days).
I’m thinking of asking their teachers if I can take them out of school for a day each and bring them to work with me for educational purposes so they get some perspective in the form of networks and servers.
Sure, they’re mostly interested in gaming, but I want them to see what kind of infrastructure is needed for a multiplayer game, specifically the hardware that they never get to see.
I’m building a new server stack in a couple of months, and most of it will be used for testing, so I’d like for them to help build and connect it.

And the study was even proven wrong in the 17th century. A finite amount of monkeys already produced Shakespeare in a finite amount of time; it took roughly 55 million years.
Source: Primates show up in the fossil records, dating to roughly 55mill years. And Shakespeare’s complete works were most likely completed by William Shakespeare, a famous decendant of said primates.
