Bruh, I see more meat-eaters following and actively commenting on vegan pages and forums than vegans being annoying lol

Damn, that sounds very interesting! The use of a Keepass DB instead of a new one makes it great to have as option. It’s something I hadn’t think about for a long time.
I’ll check it out later and maybe install it after I restore my server, I’m planning to reduce my attack surface too:)
Damn, those stories scare me a lot because I can’t afford good enough backups right now, so I rely on mirroring via Syncthing what I can and using an USB for my server (fortunately I don’t have a lot of personal things). All the family memories are in multiple locations and devices so I don’t have the time (nor storage) to backup those lol
Because of my situation, it takes me some time to save even for second hand things (I just bought a CPU and a new voltage regulator). I’m planning on buying some used HDDs as secondary storage and one as an external. Slowly but surely D:
Well, OP didn’t say what was their situation. I’m behind a CG-NAT so I’d need a VPS or something similar for which I’d have to pay, and I don’t have the budget right now. I understand the concern, but OP is looking to reduce the time needed to setup things.
You seem to have almost everything under control and already planned. For the VPN I’d suggest Tailscale since it’s the easiest VPN to set up (if you don’t have a public IP). You can do a lot of things with it, but if you only want the basics, then there’s not much reading to do. Some people recommend ZeroTier, but I havent tried it, tbh.
BTW, I would keep in mind that Tailscale is planning to go IPO (if you care about that):
I don’t usually like to use specific terms to define myself, but to me it’s easier to say: “bisexual agender” than: “I don’t actually fit into the gender roles nor identities, and I also like a lot of different people, but not always. Also I sometimes feel inclined to a gender, but never enough to say ‘I’m that’”. You know, like a TL;DR.
Also, I’ve known different types of people who need definitions and certain terms:
I’m pretty sure there are more reasons, but you need to understand that external people will try to negate anything that’s not “written down”. And to add more context, there are some terms I haven’t even seen in person or known, but whatever, I respect that. I hope categorizing is not needed in the future. Unfortunately, there’s still backlash, hate and violence towards the community, with or without “weird” words, you can be targeted just because of your looks or your personality.
P.S.: some people may not need to specify their preference/identity, but that may be because theirs is seen as “normal”, that’s a whole other discussion.
Where I live, Chromebooks never really took off. I had access to computers since kindergarten, but in my home I only had phones, so I mostly learned tinkering with them (installing custom ROMs, cracking, etc.) until I got an old Intel Atom with 2GB of RAM lol (I tried **anything **to get pirated games running). My younger sibling and cousins never really learned much about computers because they were introduced directly to smartphones, and since they weren’t taught very much (other than basic Office tasks), they were never interested on computers nor my family was buying something kids didn’t ask for. So in my case, Chromebooks didn’t have anything to do, it was mostly bad parenting and the boom of smartphones :P
I don’t usually participate in communities of my interest, like vegan, communist, anarchist, etc. because I know I don’t agree a 100% and that there will always be people that think are better than others or that have a lot more time to spend on activism than me. But all my friends know I never back down when discussing important topics with anyone, I always tell them that I will take the time to discuss with people they don’t like, like weird conservatives and other uncomfortable groups (which have a big presence where I study).
I usually can recognize when someone is close to being more left-leaning than what they think they are, and I take the time to talk to them about it, which a lot of leftist communities don’t (at least from what I’ve seen). Yes, there are trolls, but usually when talking in person, they aren’t that stupid.
Thank you! That’s really helpful for the plans I have :)
May I ask what are the specs and size of those Thinkcentres? I have one I’m using as a server and planning to upgrade the CPU because it has a dual core one, and someone offered me the same one I have, but it’s pretty big. I’d prefer to use the tiny models when I can buy some :D
Same here in México, a lot of people think their dual core Intel from 2011 (and even older than that) is still worth more than +$100USD. Even worse, companies usually want to resell devices to recover some of the cost, so even that option is kind of expensive. I’m waiting for some friends that can buy company devices for cheap so they can resell them to me for cheap too lol
Hey, I also sway my foot while using the terminal!
We’re 10 years early, it was supposed to happen on 2035 😭
Same. I mean, I was already looking to rent a VPS, but at least there’s some time so I can save money until things get weird.
In México very little News sources use RSS, at most they have Flipboard accounts or Twitter :(
This also applies to information about the government, where most of the politicians and other elements use Twitter :/
Lol I’m a linux user, but I rarely see content about it on Mastodon. I try to center over conversations and so and try to keep Tech content here in Lemmy.
You literally create your feed and select the people you want to connect to, it’s easier to control the things you see ;)
Good. I hope that kills completely the Saguaro Project :D
My favorite example of the use of both are PDFs:
pdfunite
to merge PDFs.
I had seen that prompt, but never searched about it. I found it a little annoying, mostly because I didn’t know what it was for, but now I won’t mind. I hope more solutions are developed :D
