It’s amazing how they basically perfected something, and then just dropped it in the trash.
I know it’s easy to explain that they basically sold them to everyone who wanted one. But it really feels like a device that/situation that a company like Google could maintain as a good will thing. As a standard. As a protocol.

Yeah, I’m mostly talking about how r/singularity changed. And “let’s break society” accelerationist people.
It is interesting how Reddit has a sub (multiple subs?) with people frothing at the mouth about AI advancements, but Lemmy does not seem to.
I remember there being claims from him or his team about lidar being a dead end that would not scale as well as computer vision.
I question if we really need spaces like that anymore. But I see where you are coming from.
I was definitely only thinking about social places like Lemmy and Discord. Not networking places like Facebook and LinkedIn.
It really feels like there are zero solutions available. I’m at a point where I realize that all social networks have major negative impacts on society. And I can’t imagine anything fixing it that isn’t going back to smaller, local, and private. Maybe we don’t need places where you can expect everyone to be there.
I dunno man. Discord has thousands of closed servers that are doing great.
I don’t think piracy is a proper alternative to paying for commercial content.
Free content is.
So it shouldn’t be on this chart IMO. It’s a separate topic. It’s not a good look to lump piracy in with open/free software ideology.
