8·22 hours ago…and so many beings that tell people “what, you’re not supposed to be here yet”
I also found out recently that the thing people say about dmt flooding your brain at death and being responsible for hallucinations has like zero scientific evidence… It’s just a chemical that all life usually has in it, and they assume it could happen at death. But they’ve measured the blood of mice while dying and saw no evidence of it. It’s just assumed “they see weird shit so they must be on drugs”, completely unproved hypothesis that’s thrown around like fact.
Oh god do you think they have plant based abortion burgers

politics @lemmy.world•Pelosi: Those who knew of Biden’s decline ‘should have acted’English
215·2 days agoSeems disengeniuous. He stepped down mid fucking campaign. That is acting.
You can say all you like that people should have done it earlier or said something, but ffs your candidate acts a bit old or weird one day, do you go to the presses and say he’s senile? Being under a lot of stress causes people to act funny. You don’t know if it’s too much until it’s too much.
There’s this reporter, Ross Coulthart, started going off about aliens and UFOs and telepathy and weird shit recently. He is an award winning investigative reporter who got turned into an alien reporter.
Well I noticed one day he starts talking about the GATE program (gifted and talented education) and testing children for psionic ability… Then i remember my parents trying to get me to try out for GATE and taking me to some weird building where they gave me weird psychic tests…
I failed them, but it proved to me that life is way stranger than we give it credit for. Yes, there are secret government programs looking for telepathic children. I’ve seen proof. That’s probably just the tip of iceberg if so.

DIY@slrpnk.net•Any tips on plastic adhesives? Trying to repair headphonesEnglish
5·2 days agoNot sure i would use a plastic stapler/welder for something like this with small electronics but it is for plastic … If you’re careful it might work long term. Just be clean and accurate and don’t leave pointy bits that could cut you. The staples need to be trimmed after and it would be best to melt more plastic over it probably.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Saw this at the store this morning, took a double takeEnglish
17·2 days agoBecause it’s clear they want kids to start drinking budweiser young. It’s marketing budweiser to minors, whether it has alcohol or not. And it’s marketing alcohol (“it’s BEER for under age”) to youth… Beer by default has alcohol. This is marketing beer to literal children.
What do you think all that marketing does? Gets them drinking more budweiser as adults, and probably interested in alcohol while underage. Shady as fuck.
terranoid@lemmy.cafetointerestingasfuck@lemmy.world•Historically, hospitals have been know to utilize prescription beer to safely manage severe alcohol withdrawals, preventing life threatening gran mal seizuresEnglish
261·2 days agoProbably cheaper to use budweiser. It’s already food safe and the economy at scale makes it easy to get.
Then they can go and charge your insurance $5000 for a 12 oz

News@lemmy.world•Trump signs executive order calling for spacing out childhood shotsEnglish
2·3 days agoThat’s how a lot of the government works though. It’s legal enough to change the way things work.
It’s one branch of government declaring a new way to enforce things from the very top. It always depends on people below actually following through.
Shit, even decriminalization is like that. A city can say, “we no longer want to prosecute people for marijuana” and they literally just tell cops to stop arresting people for it, whether it’s a federal crime or not. And the cops will stop arresting people for it… Usually… And if someone does get arrested for it, the district attorney will probably say “well we aren’t prosecuting for that so let him go”, and that’s that.
It’s similarly “legal”. Someone in power declares a way of doing things and people do it, to a certain extent.
There’s a supposed balance of powers that way. Legislators don’t get to decide 100% how things work. Other branches can make choices. Judges, mayors, governors, presidents.
And obviously, it can get abused, and nothing is stopping Trump from declaring that wearing green on Sunday is illegal, and if he did judges would probably just tell people to ignore that stupid shit.
Legal is a spectrum. It always depends on how it’s going to be enforced in practice, and how severe the penalties are, and how badly people want to do it.

Technology@beehaw.org•Top economist warns that the AI math doesn’t make sense: 'Profits are currently being funded by investors rather than earned from customers'English
71·3 days agoNah, I don’t think it’ll “ruin” the internet in the disaster sense. It’s already done enough that it ruined reddit, quora, other social media, but those weren’t really information sources as much as companies selling addictive brain rot to steal your data. They are not on the same level as wikipedia, or even representative or what the internet is. Even if you got useful stuff off reddit once upon a time, it was always about tracking you and capturing your data and making you addicted to wasting your time watching bullshit.
What we’re seeing and this “top economist” is saying is just “this is a bubble” in other words without saying the B word. People tune out the B word because they believe in the technology. A bubble has nothing to do with whether AI works, and all to do with the behavior of investors and unsustainable investments. So many people these days have to dance around the bubble word because people think it means you are anti-AI.
We will likely see things remain more or less the same except one day investors freak out and stop investing in AI, and then tech will go through a ton of shitty layoffs and people will struggle and some rich day trader type fucks will lose their livelihoods, just like the dotcom era. But after that, we will still have generative AI tools here and there, maybe more restricted to better use cases and not shoved in your face everywhere, but LLM will still be a thing.
Yeah, it means you’ll likely have fucked social media forever, bots, propaganda, fake news, fake AI videos of bullshit, but social media always was about controlling your thought patterns. It already fucking sucked. That part of the internet was always shit. But interconnected devices sending data to each other and allowing researchers in Oslo Norway to talk to researchers in Omaha Nebraska, that will still very much be alive and work well.
