I don’t know, Dan Gheesling (the example human being you chose) can probably stretch that irony level, while straight faced acting like he isn’t being even slightly ironic.

A netbook was always just a very small cheap laptop. They still exist but nobody really calls them netbooks any more. Most of them run chromeOS now and they call them chromebooks.

Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•Deck wakes from suspend after latest SteamOS update.
3·21 days agoNo but mine does this too.
I have a thing with 6 hooks on it that attaches to the top of my bedroom door. That’s where I put clothes I’ve worn already that I intend to wear again before I wash them. Also my coat and hat.

Gaming@lemmy.world•Games designed to be one thing, but are commonly played other than intended?English
2·27 days agoYeah it’s tough using a controller sometimes. The frequent use of dpad directions or the select button while also wanting to hold the sticks both in whatever directions gets me holding my controller in some interesting ways. Having a controller you’re very comfortable with helps. The controls of like TVs and radios is super terrible also, but I’ve gotten somewhat used to it.

RetroGaming@lemmy.world•What's your greatest "gaming high" you've been chasing ever since? Please take care not to spoil anything, if you are going to be story-specific.English
3·27 days agoThe early days of Asheron’s Call. One of the earliest MMORPGs with a 3d game world. It was cool being in a giant world with thousands of other people who were all trying to figure out the game and explore the world. There were monthly updates that were adding all kinds of new stuff all the time. I don’t really care for MMOs any more but it was a cool experience at the time.

13·27 days agoSometimes I make a save just before some part of a game that I think is really fun. When I go back to play the game instead of like starting a new game or loading my save that is the furthest way through I just run through the part I really like.
There are a ton of games I consider my favorites that I have never played all the way through. I don’t really care that much about completing a game and I generally think the beginning is more fun than the later stages of many games.
Speaking of Project Zomboid I often, but not always, play that game with the infection turned off or set to bites only at least because I don’t want my run to end just because I made a tiny mistake or something really janky happens with the user interface that gets me scratched. I also play Project Zomboid with a game controller which isn’t how the game was originally designed but luckily someone on the team decided it was worth coding and I love them for it.
Sometimes I play Rust on a private server by myself with no other players just messing around and doing the PvE content.

About 120 miles. I am still familiar with the town, I’ve been back several times, but it’s not my home. I’ve lived in the city I live in now for a little over 30 years.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•US question: Would you approve of your state seceding from the Union, declaring independence from the United States? I think California, Oregon, and Washington would, and probably Colorado too.
13·5 months agoI live in Oregon, I’d prefer it if Oregon joined Canada as a province, or like Washington and Oregon together. I don’t think it’s realistic. There’s a lot of unanswered questions of how things would work but I have daydreamed about it.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Linux help and actual pros and cons
3·7 months agoIt’s really easy to try out most linux distributions by running them live from a USB drive. You’ll need to be able to tell your computer to boot from the drive by entering your BIOS setup.
Once you’ve done that you’ve probably done the most technical thing you’ll have to do to try linux. If you have a separate SSD to install linux on you’ll have a pretty easy time actually installing linux. If not you’ll have to learn to partition your drive which can feel a little scary.
I think if you are playing a lot of different games it’s likely you will find some that won’t run on linux so you’ll likely still need to run some form of windows for some games. I’d hope to see that change in the future but I’m not holding my breath. I personally still do most of my gaming on windows because some of my favorite games don’t run on linux but it really depends on your preferences.

Steam Deck@sopuli.xyz•We Can Now Get Steam Deck Buttons Made Out Of Stone
17·7 months agopretty sure the buttons are “keyed” in a way that doesn’t let you put them in the wrong slot. It’s been that way for controllers I took apart.

I have an 8bitdo zero 2 that I’ve had for a few years.
I kept it on my key chain for a long time. It would be in my pocket for 8 hour workdays in which I worked outside and got wet. It still works despite having been through all that.
I used to stick my phone to a magnetic mount in my car sometimes and used the controller to play emulated games. Nowadays I use a retro handheld or a steam deck.
I recommend 8bitdo very highly in general. Most of their controller feel really solid and completely nail the retro aesthetic they are copying.
The zero 2 isn’t like that though. It feels cheap and light, but it has held up well.
