  • Weeeeell… Depends…

How does one define “superhuman”? Better than humans at a task demanding intelligence? Computer vision AI used for radiology is superhuman. Does it want to conquer the world? No. Chess AI is superhuman. Yet, it does what humans designed it to do.

The scope of the goals of the AI model matter. Now, we have to ensure that the goals of this AI align with the goals we set out for it. It’s definitely not impossible to ensure this ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    1. Do not engage with someone unwilling to have a good faith convo. Most folks unfortunately, don’t even know what good faith arguments mean.
    2. Arguing with a bad faith counterpart makes sense when you want to explore your own beliefs further by probing them from different angles, when you’re simply having fun using your brain, and when you want to leave your argument for a third party observing the conversation.

Attempting to convince someone else directly is quite impossible online in my experience. Simply because people generally aren’t here to have good faith convos.

Leaving a convo/not replying to a rebuttal is NOT conceding your point.

  • No, you aren’t missing anything. You’re right that some sort of basic income is inevitable (universal or not). Even if you are a raging capitalist, you still need the plebs to have SOME income to be able to purchase goods and services.

However, for this to happen, it must be demonstrable that AI is actually causing high unemployment. Right now, while economic productivity is kinda increasing due to AI, unemployment isn’t. When it happens:

    • Capitalists will advocate for BI.
    • Market socialists will advocate for BI combined with government/coop ownership over some or all means of production.
    • Socialists that prefer planned economics could advocate for an expansion of universal basic services.
    • Primitivists will advocate for bans on AI or whatever, I dunno.

Massive unemployment is bad for everyone including the ruling class, as that leads to pitchforks, guillotines and chopped off heads.

  • I don’t think it would be in the advantage of a smart civ to willfully contact another smart civ till it is confirmed that the “to be contacted” civ has a really good understanding of game theory.

You cannot negotiate mutually assured destruction with a civ that does not understand what mutually assured destruction means.

Do I think we would be destroyed if some other alien civ finds us? No. If civ A observes civ B destroying civ C, everyone would want to destroy civ B immediately. The possibility of there being peaceful contact for civ B goes away.

Also, contacting us must be in the benefit of the civ that contacts us (assuming they are rational).

  • It’s always the same story, poor sanitation, environmental degradation, corruption and climate.

Naah I don’t buy it. Individual cities and countries collapse, but not anything larger. Also, poor sanitation throughout history was mostly because of a lack of understanding of germ theory.

Nawww, I was thinking more of a secret nihilistic text or something. Something that just makes an entire civ kill themselves or something. Or maybe some equation that spells eternal doom or something that leaves everyone absolutely hopeless.

I’ll try going through the summaries of the books you recommended! Thanks :)

HAH. I once read smut where a monster gave a blowjob to a dude and then ATE HIM. Like swallowed and digested him. The text explained the events in great detail. Also, the dude being eaten was into it (the being eaten part).

As tr0xy said, don’t underestimate text lmao
