to build these products as fast as possible

Without considering if it’s even possible at all. But they’ve probably convinced themselves it is and now sunk cost will keep them going.

It’s mostly FOMO for Boomer CEOs that would rather risk the company than be seen asleep at the switch on the AI “revolution”. Like bank CEOs of the 2000s, they are investing in black boxes they don’t understand, because a few twats at Harvard sold them a faulty algorithm. If it fails and takes down a company, who cares, they are retired and yachting by then.

It will take years to realize that the original Google search had a much more profound effect on productivity, but now that has been enshittified.

Gambling is much more fun when you’re betting other people’s money.

On that note, my condolences if anyone thinks they have a pension or 401k or retirement plan of any kind.

Like sure, technically you might, but not meaningfully, no.

Boomers, as we all know, are extremely tech literate, and in tune with modern digital culture.

… when it comes to the ‘metaverse’, they pretty much could not have picked something they were more clueless about.

As I said in another comment… VRChat already existed, when the Meta transition happened.

They spent tens of billions of dollars and couldn’t figure out how to even match VRChat.

If Facebook wanted to try and do the Metaverse… they should have just bought VRChat, figure out some way to patent-fuck them into accepting that.

That way there would at least not be an alternative to go to after they ruin it.

… why am I not making 50 million dollars a year as an industry consultant?

They should’ve done all initial meetings about the metavers in VR chat to see if it was such s great idea. But I guess there was a much fatter paycheck in it for saying the classics words: “Great idea boss!”

          Pretty much.

They’re all egomaniacs, they need to be cut down to size, one way or another, or they will literally kill us all, and then pout about how no is left to appreciate them.
