Yeah, 5’s story is pretty mid and I agree that franklin is the most likeable, but I find it weird that he’s just a minor catalyst to a story that could otherwise happen without him.
4 has by far the best story of the GTAs and I doubt 6 will beat it, as I assume it is aimed at casual audience.
I don’t really think that 5’s story does happen without Franklin, though, is the thing. He isn’t one of the big movers of the story, but he is the boots on the street that gets things done. Michael likes to think that he’ll go do thug shit when he needs to, but he doesn’t, he’s an organizer more than he is a goon. Trevor just isn’t reliable to get things done when you ask him to, he’s going to do things his own way and that usually involves putting a wrench in your plan. Without Franklin you just have two old men past their primes who might have big dreams but they don’t have the organization and the gumption to pull it off. Franklin is their man on the street, he knows people, he drives, he keeps a cool head and he sticks to the plan. He’s probably the most competent criminal of the trio, in my opinion, if not the most famous or the most successful.
Though I do feel like “goon and keeping-grouded-er” isn’t a role that needs to be peeformed by a playable chracter, it could be offloaded to an NPC. Also, he doesn’t know people, that’s why he needs Michael.
I’d be more forgiving if he tried to do his own schemes, but whenever he isn’t Michael’s goon he’s just Lamar’s goon instead. Or Simeon’s, or Devin Weston’s, or Steve Haines’, or JB’s.
