A meme screenshot from the TV series “Home Improvement”. During a Halloween episode, teenager Randy Taylor is pictured in the kitchen discussing his Halloween plans with his mother (not pictured). The text on the meme reads “Watching in 1997: Ah yes, a lighthearted Republican joke on a family friendly sitcom. Amusing.” The next paragraph reads “Watching in 2026: squirms in discomfort”. The punchline on the meme is dialogue from Randy Taylor, displayed as subitles on the meme, which reads: “Yeah. We’re going as the scariest people we could think of: Republicans”.

In 1996, it was widely assumed that fascism was extinct, to the point that Seinfeld could have a Soup Nazi and not have to explain that he’s not an actual Nazi.

There was also the whole Godwin thing (that basically said that any online argument would, over time, have a higher chance of someone accusing the other party of or making a comparison to nazisim), which eventually evolved to “if you mention hitler or nazis in an online debate, you automatically lose”, which was pretty stupid because sometimes it is relevant (obvious today).

Though today I wonder if that was pushed in bad faith by people who wanted to avoid nazi comparisons because they were apt, so pushed that pseudologic bs that Godwin’s original statement got perverted into. And then it was picked up by the multitude of people who just want an “I win” button for arguments.

He also only got out of it by snitching on dealers. He also got a dui during the run of home improvement.

Also, his honest actual name is Tim dick. Allen is his middle name.

        It’s probably from his drinking…

He was getting duis thru the late 90s and had a court ordered rehab and a bunch others.

Especially back then a lot of those include a healthy dose the kind of Jesus rich people love.

Throw in normal mental decline of aging and the lead exposure from his love of cars that you’d manually add lead too…

And yeah, obviously he’s a Republican now.

His brain is cooked, and has been for decades by now.

Tim did a lot of cocaine. People with severe drug problems end up with paranoia and brain damage.

I think the last time I listened to the Joe Rogan podcast was when he had Roseanne Barr on right after she was canceled for racist remarks.

Rogan really tried to save her by saying that she had brain damage from when she was a kid, and was a sleep deprived Ambien zombie at the time, but she wouldn’t have any of that. She just kept claiming that the she had no idea that the person who she called “Planet of the Apes” was black.

Anyways, Roseanne was complaining about how the writers for her show would put all sorts of jokes in at the expense of conservatives, but then when she wanted to put in jokes at the expense of progressives, they wouldn’t let her.

So I suspect Tim Allen probably didn’t have much to say about whether the Home Improvement writers ragged on lefties or righties.

We really need to start teaching modern history to kids as it happens…

The younglings honestly don’t understand this has been happening for decades before trump showed up.

The silver lining is trump is so fucking bad at selling it, that damn near everyone is realizing what he’s doing. They thought Iran would get them support, but it’s fairly obvious they know how calendars and our government works…

They’ll drag it out till midterms with likely escalations leading up to election day. Everytime trump mitigates gas prices and brags, Iran can just squeeze harder.

Reminiscent of Nixon with Vietnam, except no one has to convince Iran they’re better off with a muzzled trump than one who can do anything he wants with the American military.
