Totally got this by accident. I had them as a group that sounds like two letters and not what the actual group was which I would probably never had seen.

Stuck on purple for awhile. Pretty sure I’d seen “letter homophones” in a previous puzzle but “emmy” --> m/me was giving me trouble until I realized it was m/e, just like “any” (n/e). Then state abbreviations turned out to be more specific than just random letters anyway
