Amid the one-liners, Conan O’Brien is striking a serious tone during his Academy Awards monologue, saying the annual Hollywood awards show brings some optimism in these “chaotic times.”

“Tonight is an international event,” O’Brien said, following some rapid-fire jokes, as he kicked off the 98th Oscars in Los Angeles on Sunday.

“If I can be serious for just a moment, everyone watching right now around the world is all too aware that these are very chaotic, frightening times,” the former late-night TV host said.

“It’s at moments like these that I believe that the Oscars are particularly resonant,” O’Brien, 62, continued.

“Thirty-one countries across six continents are represented this evening. And every film we salute is the product of thousands of people speaking different languages, working hard to make something of beauty,” O’Brien told the audience.

“We pay tribute tonight not just to film, but to the ideals of global artistry, collaboration, patience, resilience, and that rarest of qualities today: optimism,” he said to applause.

“Let us celebrate — not because we think all is well — but because we work and hope for better,” O’Brien said.

While O’Brien did not mention the conflict, the Hollywood awards show came as the United States entered a second week of war with Iran.

Conan O’Brien told the truth because he knows Brenden Carr can’t cancel him.

He didn’t even really say anything partisan. Literally he just acknowledged reality. Apparently that really upset some people for some reason.

Stephen Colbert’s next project will be better once he’s away from those CBS assholes. Maybe they’ll run a gardening show in that time slot.

Considering there was a film festival just recently making the argument that the art isn’t political, it’s nice to see his statement.

Conan thinking: “Let’s see now, how can I make a giant party that’s nothing but a mutual admiration society for a bunch of rich people seem somehow OK to do while people are suffering all over in a world that’s falling apart because our country just started WWIII but it doesn’t affect us because did I mention we’re all rich as hell and just spent 150 grand each on our outfits that we’ll wear only this once?” sigh "I suppose I have to say something because the poors are watching and we want them to keep watching our movies to escape from their dismal lives for a while.*

*clears throat* “Let us celebrate — not because we think all is well — but because we work and hope for better”

    “Yeah, that sounds good”

edit: Yall downvoters love those multi-millionaires, huh? What do you find admirable about them? That they’re prettier than the tech-bro nerdy kind of rich? That they only make hundreds of millions instead of billions, only own a couple mansions and just the one private jet?

I mean tbh I don’t give a shit about the Oscars.

I do like Conan a lot though, and it pisses off that authoritarian pedophile and his lap dog at the FCC for people to openly talk about reality. So I give it 2 thumbs up.

I only read the quote that was posted, which didn’t actually criticize the regime or anything. Sounds pretty tame to me.

“Talk to your PC” I mean Windows has had voice control since… Shit, a very long time. It’s actually decent, especially used in tandem with keyboard and… ugh… mouse, I guess.

Open directory, close window, close tab, open Firefox, open notepad… For basic stuff it can be nice.

Edit: Oh, and it most CERTAINLY doesn’t need AI to work… Although… Come to think of it, that would be pretty nifty if it wasn’t that Microslop is obviously going to harvest your fucking soul right through it.
