Kiev has accepted technical and financial assistance from the European Union to repair a pipeline delivering Russian oil to Hungary and Slovakia, EU top officials announced.
Absolutely pathetic.
Maybe this is a 5D chess move from the EU. They tell Orban the Hutt that we have started a project to fix the pipeline. Just need to get a work group to figure out the logistics, then a commission to figure out the finances, then need to start accepting offers from private companies who want to fix it, then realise that we overlooked something about the application process and need to start all over again… By then it’ll be 2032.
You could always get one member state that refuses to use veto power, which hopefully would make Hungary also help in that ordeal
Subtract the money for the pipeline repairs from a subsidies package
Hungary benefitsOrban steals from, and Orban will personally veto the repairs.
Well, at least Zelenskiy is not forced to repair the pipe for Ukraine’s own cost.
You can’t magic wand the need for hard resources away to satisfy a moral position. You have to satisfy the material resources shift first. Now that US-Israel cut 20% of the world oil supply, the material problem has become that much more severe. I think we’ll even see more calls for normalization of relations with Russia.
I expect you’re right. I expect this was the plan all along. Since it’s unlikely Trump is capable of this strategic thinking, the question becomes “Was attacking Iran Netanyahu’s, Putin’s, or Miller’s idea?
The question has to be: What is the plan? The masterminds won’t be stupid enough to stand in the spotlight.
The US and the West will not only lose the race for production capacity but also for technological knowledge itself to China.
Who will dictate global politics in 10 or 20 years if the development continues?
How can winning the war against Iran make a difference?
I think it was mainly Netanyahu’s but for Israel’s own region domination goals, not for any wider economic plan. I think the wider economic impact will be horrible for Israel given how dependent they are on EU trade. If the EU goes down the shitter, Israel won’t look pretty at all. But then following his shortsighted plan everyone else is positioning themselves to make the best of it. E.g. Putin stands to gain. I think it’s a mix of shortsighted, stupid and opportunistic among the different actors.
