I have a feeling I’ve already made a post about Patches before, but I’m too lazy to check :D
My favourite is probably Spider Patches from Bloodborne. His design is creepy and he’s not purely evil like in most other games he appears. Arguably he’s morally grey and not purely evil, but come on: he backstabs you every chance he gets. In BB he’s kinda friendly at least? Plus he can be missed quite easily
I adore Elden Ring and DS3 patches. Both have amazing storylines:
Tap for spoiler
ER Patches have it’s own love story, and DS3 one can save an NPC (Greyrat), plus his DLC plotline adds to the end of the series a lot
Patches' ER story
I felt like the thing with Tanith ended really weirdly abruptly. It’s totally fine if Tanith doesn’t give a shit about him, if anything her obsessive dedication to Rykard makes that make more sense than anything else, but we never see anything come of it for Patches

Absolutely agree.I was so hyped to continue that questline when i saw Messmer snakes in the SoTE trailer, assuming they’re related. But it turned into another frustration. DLC is cool and all, but I hate how it’s completely separate from the base game
ER Patches’ appearance at the Radahn festival is brilliant, but I think the whole thing with Lapp in DSIII’s Ringed City is the most interesting version of him. Not quite Unbreakable given aeons enough, it seems
Patches remaining unhollowed by being a tireless troll was the lore drop I didn’t know I needed.
That… Makes perfect sense. I never understood what causes certain people to hollow until recently but that entirely tracks with everything about Patches
Adding a bit of depth to what I thought was basically an easter egg character had an unexpected emotional impact.
Arachnid Patches of course!

Been a lil while without ‘art’, so here’s some for 'yall!
After my DS3 save’s untimely death I jumped back to Sekiro.
Ohh man I have gotten zoned into the FLOW of the fight a couple of times already and it’s pure bliss, felt like the most badass shinobi against Genichiro earlier.

And I’m glad he’ll be back. Loved the transformation from “fully kitted nerd to lightning hottie”. Umm, yes, more please.

Then comes a mini boss that stumps me completely. XD The big gun lady is not playing around, I can’t parry her grab consistently yet (Insta-death most of the time.)These are the ones that have given me the most trouble so far, Mini boses with a side mob you have to work around. (Not counting the Generals.)
Tap for spoiler
The purple apparition enemies I have just avoided for now. As they seem optional and I don’t feel like farming for the must-use item for them.
Speaking of the Generals and their minions, or the basic human enemies… damn they are dumb as rocks haha. Stepping over their fallen comrades, oblivious to the danger lurking about, bless their hearts. As a result stealth feels low stakes. A tad immersion breaking since this is a more grounded world.
One thing I’ve enjoyed a lot is moving about on the roof tops and such. The area before accesing the castle was fire, loved that.
All in all, I’m having fun and determined to see this through, even if slowly XD… I was feeling very arrogant in DS3, Sekiro is humbling, but I’ve gotten a taste of the good stuff and, like I said in another thread so far it feels very fair and doable.
I’ll definitely buy a nice bottle of wine to celebrate when I finish! :P
This section is for @Coelacanth@feddit.nu
Forgot to say the other day, that there are side weapons, skill trees, (It doesn’t seem to amount to any sort of significant build variety… but, hey, it’s there! ) and the ocational ally (well, I’ve found -one- for a specific fight, unsure if he’ll show up later again). Just so you know.
Love your art as always. Those pronounced cheek bones - holyy.
I’m glad it’s finally clicked for you! It really takes a while to get into it, but once it does, the game doesn’t let you go.
Yea the Snake Eyes mini bosses are quite tough at first. They deal so much damage for how few moves they have and some of them aren’t telegraphed all that well. It’s usually pretty unknown to most players that you can parry her grab attack. If you get the timing down, it’s usually even better to go for the parry vs. a dodge. However, you can also try to dodge to the side or towards her instead of a parry.
The Headless Warriors are side content, that’s correct. There should be three strewn around the world that give you reusable sugars, but they’re not mandatory at all. I usually just skip them too because the fights are super long and annoying.
I’ve never really had a problem with the way stealth is used in the game, come to think of it. It certainly is odd that the enemy AI is so easily fooled, but I think if it reacted realistically to stealth, it’d get frustrating too quickly. If you consider how well Dishonored’s AI reacts to your advances and to the environments they are in, it makes sense that they are as aggressive and “smart” about it since it’s the main focus of the game whereas in Sekiro it’s just one of the ways that some players can indulge in for certain sections. The focus is on combat still, after all.
The movement is soo fun, I agree. Makes for a very dynamic way of moving around the world plus it opens up a new layer for the already beloved verticality that FS games are cherished for. When it’s integrated into combat like with GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA, it’s even better. Makes you feel like a shinobi using all the tools at his disposal to get a W by any means.
How do you like the prosthetics?
Enemy ai…Yeah, It’s a little nitpick and you are right, the game would maybe feel asphyxiating if those enemies were more reactive. The ninjas are cool as heck tho, and kinda make up for it anyways. I’ve liked those fights a lot.
As for the prosthetics I’ve only really used the axe because it deals some decent posture damage (and looks really cool with the follow ups) and the shuriken (sp.?) to sort of call the attention of enemies or kill them from s distance. But not much else. I keep forgetting about the fire one. And the myst raven I haven’t touched but it’s like a quickstep I believe? Don’t know if I have any others… But will look into learning them as I feel I’ll need them more as I progress. Which ones do you recomend the most in terms of usefulness?
Love your art
Thank you very much, Druid ⋆ᴗ⋆
Well, I’d not call it a purist stance and more so a lack of motivation to integrate them properly into my playstyle, but I don’t really use any of them :D The axe is mostly utility for me for shield enemies, but honestly, I just don’t fight those enemies, so the axe is kinda meh to me. Shuriken can be fun against some enemies that jump since you force them to the ground with them. The follow-up is also pretty good as a gap closer. Then there’s also the flamethrower that has the utility of being very effective against beast bosses (Ogre, Bull for example) and the last upgrade I remember being pretty good too, I think. Mist Raven is really good probably and is like an additional dodge with a baked-in attack. The timing can be a little tricky, but it looks really cool and adds another layer of movement to fights in a way.
You should probably have them by now, but you didn’t mention them. The firecrackers are also really good against pretty much any enemy, rising in effectiveness with further upgrades.
There’s a couple more I could think of being useful, but you’ve probably not seen them yet. One is a defensive tool, another one is a “bait”, I’ll call it, another one that is similar to Mist Raven, and a combat-focused tool that can make for cool combos and good utility against some enemies.
Overall, they’re cool, but I don’t play with them too much since I know most bosses so well by now that I just clink clank my way to victory
Love your artwork :) Wolf is satisfied, but he does not smile (¬`‸´¬)
I need to get Sekiro a proper tried again. I only played a single 2.5 hours play session and it didn’t realy click for me that time.
Thanks! Yeah I feel Sekiro requires a tad more time for a fair chance. Actually, Lies of P was the game that pushed me to try.
(¬`‸´¬) also, I’m stealing this little face!!
Since I now have a bit more of a feeling for deflecting rather than only parrying after Lies of P, I’m going to give Sekiro a more proper try again. However, it won’t be my next game immediately after Lies of P.
I was in a Kaomoji mood after a recent post in c/comics (^_-)
I am aware of the tools and prosthetics and stuff in Sekiro, I’ve seen some videos about the game so I am not completely blind on it. But as far as I understand it’s nothing like the levelups and tools in other souls games, and at most choosing the correct prosthetic for each boss might give you a leg up on dealing with a specific mechanic or attack, nothing like the near brute forcing you can achieve in some of the other games if you struggle. And I don’t know, despite having played my share of Souls games in the past I feel more and more hesitant about the prospect of getting stuck, and less and less confident I’ll overcome it. Maybe it’s an age thing.
Even now in Ronin I’m still not performing well enough to make me confident in tackling Sekiro. Maybe if I manage to beat that damn Shusaku Chiba in the Dojo with a master rating I’ll reconsider though!
EDIT: Also sorry I forgot to mention, love your art!
Yup the tools seem more like a way to spice things up.
I still enjoy the struggle. Not enough to attempt a SL1 run in any game, tho… This feels correct, enough of a challenge.
But there’s no shame in saying “this 'aint for me”, either 'cause in the end the goal is just to have fun. and you also play a wide variety of other stuff, so yeah time feels more precious. I’ll still be your hype person if you ever decide to try! Heh.
An thanks, it’s not much but it’s honest work.
My fav’ is also spider Patches. It’s mostly because he was the first Patches I encountered. I like the way he moves, there is something eery about the head on the spiders body in movement.
Heh heh heh heh…Oh Amygdala, oh Amygdala… Have mercy on the poor bastard…Hah hah hah!
My favorite voice line from Bloodborne’s Patche’s. It’s mostly William Vanderpuye pronunciation.
Bloodborne’s Patche’s also breaks the space-time continuum: if you kill him in the Lecture Building, he is still waiting on the wall in the Nightmare Frontier to push you of the cliff, even though he is already dead.
I’m finishing up Lies of P DLC. I just got the “Last Battle” pop-up. So I’m looking around if I have missed anything in the DLC (probably not much; I was quite thorough).
Also, damn, Anguished Guardian is such a fun Soulsborne boss; very fun giant boss; cool design. The rythm of the fight kinda reminded me of Bayle. Probably my favorite boss of the dlc until now. Maybe the final boss will be better???
I’m torn on Guardian. In repeat playthroughs, the fight wasn’t that difficult anymore, but the first time around was tough. It dealt way too much damage imo and and some of these wide-reaching attacks felt a little bs to me. Overall, it’s still a cool fight and it’s cool to see how this is kind of a foreshadowing (backshadowing?) of how the Simon fight would look like - very similar design and moveset.
You’re in for a treat with the final boss. That’s all I’ll say :)
Loved anguished guardian as well!!! The Two dragons sword ab.so.lu.tely shines in that fight! I appreciated the tankiness too, truly lets you savor the encounter. And, yeah they certainly took a couple of notes from SotE for this dlc.
Let me drop another couple questions for you. Feel free to answer now or when you give your final thoughts on the game. ( which I very much look forward to) :P
1.-What did you think about Markiona as a take on a duo fight? I remember your comments on the subject from a couple of weeks back, so I’m interested to hear your opinion on it.
Personally, I…
my opinion
liked the novelty of it, felt really fresh. the initial gimmick made for a good ‘oh shit!’ moment, There are good telegraphs for what’s going on so it feels fair, even if chaotic. Camera was ok. In general I enjoy the fight, That said it was probably the second hardest in the dlc for me.
And
2.-what build/ weapon(s) did you go for? Did you played around with the weapon customization mechanic?
Thanks in advance! :)
When I encountered Markiona I also immediately thought of that post :)
Visually Markiona is fantastic, one of my favorites. A magi-tech puppeteer who fights with an angel puppet? Awesome! The fight? I didn’t have time to mechanically evaluate her. I beat her on the 3rd or 4th try simply by whaling on her and defelcting/blocking when the light effects suggested it. My damgage output and defenses where simply to high. If you go at the earliest chance to the DLC, she is probably a lot harder. I don’t even know if the puppet is completely or only partially dependent on her in the fight. After I beat the game I’m going to rematch Markiona and the Oversser in the reamtch feature to get a proper feel for her.
My build is super boring (;´∀`) I only experimented at the beginning a bit: I chose the
StrengthMotivity starting class and I’m still using the Greatsword of Fate. After acquiring a couple of weapons I tried out a couple of different grips and choose the Krat Police Baton. I don’t know how exactly the assemble meachinc even functions. I should probably read up on it before I do another run. But for my first I didn’t want to look up anything about making a good build in LoP. I mostly leveled Health and Stamina and so much Capacity. I was always wearing the bestarmorparts. Back to the weapon: I have played through 99% of the game with Greatsword of Fate + Baton Grip; I love the quick downwards chop of the charge attack. It was my main source of damage for the majority of the game. Good damage, good stagger damage. My character still looks like a starting chracter with the starting sword and I’m even still wearing the white starting shirt. I now have enough materials to upgrade a dozen weapons but I have fused with my current weapon. This is probably like someone beating Elden Ring with the basic Club :)
Spider patches is def my fav, but I like ds3 Lapp as well. He’s just kind of a chill, helpful guy without any memories
Also, hoping to beat the Mortal Journey gauntlet of strength in Sekiro. I just beat it charmless as well, but I’m rounding the corner for content on this one, its a shame, ive never played another game quite like it, even if it is similar to many games ive played
Patches the spider is my favorite because he’s so wierd and his shenanigans are elaborate.
But also the first patches is funny because even back when he was a faceless robot he was still pulling bushwhacks and being a craven bastard to people

“Wait wait! I give up! H-hey, I’m just following orders here! If he’s pulled out, why should I? Y-you guys, you’re still alive right? This is No Count, come in! We’re allies right? Right?”
Of course Patches would be a kite in AC smh
Wasn’t aware of mech patches!
Rise of the Ronin is not a Soulslike really, but it’s also not yet finished so it’ll be more of that for me.
As for Patches, it’s hard to look past DS3 Patches for me. He’s enjoyable in Elden Ring too but his whole story and character arc in DS3 is my favourite by far.
