Plus, in the final stretch of recovering from a tooth extraction. It was undead (root canalled) so it didn’t hurt when it went. There was just a crunch one day, and when I went in the dentist she said it had split right down the middle. Glad I mustered the courage to have it done there and then as when she looked at it outside of my head she found an abscess had started to form.
Oh no!!! I absolutely hate the dentist so I commend your bravery!!!
Not much on this weekend in terms of going out and doing things, but I’m hoping to get some hobby projects done. Making some music and a little bit of simple art, hopefully
Oh what kinda music? What kinda art??
The music: I was looking to make something to accompany a video and I wanted to get the same general vibe as Martyn Bennet’s Blackbird but faster. I wound up putting some very Vangelis-esque synths under Capercallie’s Alasdair Mhic Cholla Glasda and got close enough for the purposes of the video. I was telling a friend about it and she liked the sound, so I want to try to do a proper song version rather than just soundtracking a video
The art: a diferent friend made some layered paper art of Heated Rivalry to be her phone case and I liked the idea, so I’m go to try to do the same but based on A Highland Song. I have my plan, I just need to get to work with a scalpel
I should check out more Martyn Bennet, Gary West is always going on about him in Enjoy Your Piping. I was on some Big Country last night with the Sunday Post speculating Adamson was abused as a kid, and hence never came to terms with it. Both lost too early sadly. Corto Alto my other Scottish band I nudge people into listening to currently. Or Valtos. Or Hellripper. Plenty of variety in that!
I actually can’t pretend to know much of his stuff at all, I only know that track because of the phenomenal Danny MacAskill video on the Cuillin Ridge on Skye. But I do like the sound of it, so I suppose I ought to check out more as well
I’m not very artistic so this sounds amazing to me!! Well done!!
Thank you! I was defeated today because it turns out the glue I was going to use for the paper and a cable I needed for the music both need replaced, but hopefully I can share some of it once I grab replacements tomorrow. I’ve done the hard part of the paper stuff, at least, should just be a matter of assembling it
Art isn’t about being good though, it’s about self expression. If you feel a call to do it, go for it. None of us are born good at any of it
Vangelis type sounds are super fun. Used to really enjoy playing with them at uni. Can’t claim to be a musician though.
What were you using them for if not music?
Soundscapes / sound-effects / fun. Nothing you could overtly classify as music.
Still cool, though! An artform in its own right
Hey! Busy old week!! I went for a sound bath Tuesday, birthday and out for dinner on Wednesday, massage tonight and out at an all dayer/club night tomorrow! Hope you are all well xx
That’s a busy week indeed! Not long til the holidays now, sounds like you need some R&R. What’s a sound bath then? I experienced an immersive shower once, lights, thunderstorm, hot/cold, varying jets - it was nice, like being in a tropical rain forest
Oh that sounds good!! Think i’d like that!!
Sound bath is where you lie on a mat in a darkened room (I also wear a sleep mask) and someone tinkles bells, plays himalayan bowls of different frequencies, bangs drums, rain sticks. Its kinda like meditation where you are supposed to switch off and lie still and just be. I try!!
Heriot Watt Beer Festival the nicht. Hame noo, an some Star Trek ah reckun the now. Beer o the nicht wis the students’ Mambo No 5 - a fine dark lager
Hopin fer the wife tae come tae her senses an compromise this weekend, naebidy likes payin lawyers, an they rarely werk oan tik!
Is it the new Star Trek??
Fingers crossed for compromise!!
There is so much Trek that I watch it all, so many great stories and characters. Currently watching Star Trek: Continues. A fan production, and it is actually great, easily matching the heights of TOS but more consistently even!
My dad loves Star Trek so growing up the telly always had TNG on!! So thats still my favourite!! I’m sure I’ve told this story before, but anyway, my mum went for a weekend to a health farm (what is now referred to as a spa!!). My dad had me and my sister to entertain so we had planned all this stuff to do. We went to the shows one of the days and we wanted to go and see My Girl at the pictures another day. When we got there, my dad said My Girl was sold out so we had to go and see Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country instead!! We think he was at it!!!
Undiscovered Country is a solid film though. Good choice on your da’s part.
My sister and I were about 7 or 8 and not chuffed!!!
