De "futo"ing would be a good idea as well. Them being associated with Curtis Yarvin (literally their peer tube) who is a piece of shit close enough to elon musk and thiel.

Lou’s Rossman’s right to repair work is great. His ability to recognize and not associate with some of the shittiest people and groups has become legend. (Kiwi farms anyone?)

Yep, heli is what I’m using ATM. They are generally pretty solid and I haven’t heard anything to recommend against the project. In fact they’re completely voluntary and opt-in data collection to build their own swipe typing Library sounds like an awesome initiative and I hope they succeed with it.

Atleast its better than Gboard lol,

any good alternatives? I’m so bad at typing in a phone my accuracy is pretty bad, I barely use my phone and I’m always on my computer that’s probably the reason.

I’m using heliboard at the moment. They offer swipe typing through the Google libraries currently. But are exploring a data collection process completely voluntarily to build their own swipe typing libraries.

I did like futo’s voice typing input method. It’s recognition was generally right up there with Google’s. Although there were certain words it frustratingly and consistently got wrong no matter how specifically I said them. But the fact that it could infer punctuation rather accurately where Google won’t even try was definitely nice. Unfortunately I have not found a truly viable replacement for that sort of input yet. I definitely believe that sometime in the not-too-distant future there will absolutely be a Foss local solution. But I don’t believe that futo’s solution is trustworthy enough to believe that it was local Etc.

An actual answer for the browser instead of just shitting on Brave would be IronFox (hardened Firefox), and the best place to get it would be the Accrescent app store.

But for real don’t use Brave…

Brave is a chrome based browser. There are a lot of Firefox forks (and no I dont recommend any because I dont wanna get into a fight…) you van and should use instead.

    Otherwise great start /good choice!

How dare you not validate my decision to use Fennec/Mull/Waterfox/Iceraven/IronFox as the one true FireFox fork.

Conversely, how dare you suggest that stock Firefox/Nightly with the right add-ons is not good enough?

      People these days…

    Obtainium!

They have new community-suggested install methods for difficult-to-get apps like Proton Calendar and Proton Mail. Usually, you’d only be able to get those from the Play Store. Obtainium lets you install them directly from their Github repos.

The most important steps are moving the chip industry to europe, producing sensible meaningful hardware that is compatible with OSes other than Android and Microsoft, and then install proper applications on them.

Gecko is the browser engine developed by Mozilla and used by Firefox.

It’s better for adblockers, since Google blocked access to features used by them in chromium.
For a performance comparison check this out.
From a security point of view, Blink/Chromium got more people working on it (Google, Microsoft, community, etc.) so potential vulnerabilities get fixed faster but by being way more popular, way more vulnerabilities are found regularly and exploited in the wild.

Swap out Brave for Fennec (Firefox fork) to stay away from Chromium perhaps?

One issue I’ve hit when de-googling is some sites/services/orgs/etc won’t let me change my email. So I’m stuck with google as long as I use those sites/services/orgs.

With some, deleting and recreating accounts may work. Some may be tricky.

The less Google usage, the less data they get, the less they understand about who you are now.

I have purchases linked to the accounts and they can’t be migrated to new accounts. Ie humble bundles, tutorials and educational materials. It sucks that there are services out there that are designed without the ability to change emails.

Well, tbh, they just use an email as a username a lot of times. As long as you note the old email address and password for an acct you should be good. Another option: Forward those emails with keys and other important info to a new address, or better yet, archive those all to a .PST (if you have Outlook for example) so they’re available offline.

Last but not least, stop using that old email, switch all important stuff over and leave the old dormant. I DO recommend a strong password update and possible MFA since you’ll seldom access it. But then you can disregard the old account and it exist for historical purposes.
