I tried invasions on a lark today and there was a wild amount of people online today. Just endless invasion matches with little-to-no pause between. Is there a community event going on today? I’ve never seen a non-standard server more active than From’s official, I tried both.
If anyone would be interested, I’m considering doing a “census” of the types of multiplayer experiences you can have at peak network activity on Seamless. I would record things like:
- Time spent waiting for connection
- Amount of players who are playing for the first time
- Amount of players who are using dropped gear (possibly, this might not be relevant to anything)
- Amount of players who are conducting duels or “fight clubs”
- Amount of players willing to exploit Seamless’ lack of anti cheat
- Amount of players who would deeply prefer not to get invaded (instant-suicide, dc, or immediately go afk. On Seamless this would indicate people unfamiliar with the settings)
The reason I am thinking about doing this is because in addition to high player counts, Seamless has unexpected quantities of these compared to regular From Soft severs. I thought the details might prompt more people to try Seamless Co-op or invasions. Let me know if you think any of this would be interesting to record or if you have another statistic you’d be interested in seeing
I don’t normally engage with the multiplayer aspects of FromSoft games, but I’d be happy to help out if I can in some manner
are you any good with statistics? I have an idea of how I want to present the data I collect but I’m not college educated. I could use a proof-read to make sure I’m not making obvious oversights.
Otherwise, that makes you my target audience! What I think I’m trying to present here will be reasons to play multiplayer, especially on this system and now that the main servers are pretty dead
I’m decent with numbers generally and have an education in mechanical engineering, but I’ve not studied statistics outside of rudimentary stuff in service of that engineering. I can indeed do a proof-read if I’m the best option available, though!
hell yeah. I’ll send a rough draft when I’ve got it written up.
Sounds like a lot of work, but I don’t think it’d be a wasted effort. I’m not sure how many people on Lemmy, specifically this community, are exposed to it - might be worth cross-posting to a bigger community with a focus on gaming to spread the word!
Definitely nothing too involved, I was picturing a notebook and a stopwatch. But I see, I’ll crosspost to other From comms
I didn’t know Seamless coop invasions were a thing at all! I’ve been wanting to do a coop run with a friend but also wanted to get invaded while we run through stuff, but assumed that invasions wouldn’t work properly.
Do invaders need to have the Seamless mod installed too or do you get Invaders from vanilla clients? I’m guessing it’s the former.
They sure are! You control if you want invasions during co-op with a text .ini file. There’s also an item in game to expand the cap on the number of invaders like Taunter’s Tongue or Dried Finger.
Yeah the invaders have to have Seamless too, which means the invasions are no longer bound to a single area. but there’s apparently way more of us on Seamless.
I’ve already made my peace with this game being relatively dead. Don’t go giving me reasons to get sucked back in!
It is SO alive and also the multiplayer now has no map boundaries
