At least in Germany, it’s an acceptable substitute for amazon (so far).
Hopefully they will serve English language users in the near future.
Not likely, from the article
If accepted onto the platform, Dutch sellers must provide customer service in German.
Language is the last bastion of the civilised world against the bastardisation of everything by the genetic dejects of the anglosphere that formed across the Atlantic. Keep local languages alive and kicking, our strength lies in our diversity! If anything make Spanish, French or German the lingua franca again.
I’d like to buy more European, but if I need to use some translation software to use the online shops that gets pretty tedious fast.
Translating the website as it updates is smaller inconvenience to Otto than it is to millions of potential buyers.
Their biggest competitor Amazon.de will cater to people who can’t understand German language.
Yeah its been my main amazon replacement the last few months and its working pretty well. I set up a SEPA mandate so Mastercard or Visa don’t get part of my purchase
This is significant, I’ve been waiting for ages to get improved access to the wider European market.
Very nice move. Currently there is a split between Otto and Kaufland for their catalogue. Otto only has trusted sources and Kaufland much like eBay and Amazon everything you can think of in very good to absolutely abysmal quality. This is a fruitful difference and I hope it stays like that.
So don’t sell us cheap shit Danes, we haven’t forgotten the Øresundstolden.
They used to sell to Dutch customers for decades, until last November when they suddenly stopped. Now just a few months later they are resuming?
Please come to Spain (in Spanish) I want to leave Amazon and for now there are no good options
Can we just get Polish Allegro in all of EU? I miss it daily since I moved out from Poland 5 years ago.
