Haven’t read the article yet, but I’m gonna take a wild-ass guess and say Lexis Nexis is involved.
A lot of laws already kind of are. IIRC the electrical code is, and it is a legal mandate to comply with it in most places.

In a country where we need a complete overhaul on copyright, they want to make laws and codes protected by it?! Lobbyists are a blight.
It’s not like there is any evidence that a company with such a stranglehold on a critical part of the business apparatus would then jack up prices to access, right? Right?
