I’m honestly impressed anyone has 14-18yr old kindles that still worked.
Every one I have come across that old is either physically broken from wear and tear. Has a completely dead battery, or a glitched out screen.
It’s not really about the devices. It’s about DRM. Amazon has to keep a way for owners of old devices to be able to download books in a format the devices can read, and the DRM is trivial to remove from those files. By obsoleting them, they close the loophole and can only offer downloads that are harder to crack.
Calibre still works. Just pirate the e-books you bought from Amazon. Also stop buying from Amazon altogether and just pirate all your e-books and buy the paperback version from an indie bookstore if you want to support the writer.
All in favor of mandating by law that devices rendered obsolete by an update must have their boot loader unlocked, raise your hands!
I am so glad we use paper straws to save the planet while these fucking tech bros dump perfectly usable devices to the landfill
I don’t use paper, I use metal. And I will stab these tech bros in the face and let them bleed out if they come near me.
The only thing capitalists love more than planned obsolescence is what, slavery?
You know, there’s probably a goodcatchy equation/slogan hiding in that question
