    I am at a complete loss why digging up rubies is still a profitable thing with efficient lab-growing of rubies being around for already a hundred or so years.

      It still requires quite a bit of energy to make, so while we can do it, it’s not dirt cheap. I thought I could get a lab diamond for my SO, but even those don’t fit my budget :).

        Well, at least it doesn’t require the blood and forced labor of people in 3rd world countries while also not filling the pockets of oppressive dictatorships.

        But perhaps that is the appeal to some, only explanation I have.
