Yeah, anyone who says “Money can’t buy happiness” has enough money that they’ve already attained what normal people would consider ‘happiness’, their standards are just unreasonably high.

I disagree. That’s not happiness, that’s just life without sadness.

Happiness is the feeling when you finally accomplish some goal you set for yourself. Happiness is coming home and having your dog/cat/animal run up to you so excited you’re back they can’t control themselves. Happiness is that feeling when you see a close friend again whom you haven’t seen in years. Happiness is when you laugh so much you collapse and just a tiny bit of pee comes out. Happiness is how a kid feels waking up on Christmas morning and opening their gifts to see that toy they have been obsessed with for weeks.

Yes most of those require some money to acquire but none require a billion. In most cases having $1000 after bills would make them possible and having $100,000,000 would not make them any more possible.

eh, my personal take is that having a universal basic services is better than everybody just having a lot of money because the cost (to society) for a lot of things goes down dramatically when you’re using economies of scale - a well know example is public transport, which is much cheaper if you organize it for a whole society at once instead of each person buys their car themselves. another example is schools, etc.

True that lowers the amount of money required for “not having money”. The idea is that life sucks if you can’t afford a minimal level of comfort but once you get there your happiness doesn’t increase by having more money and potentially even goes down. Years ago that was about 70k per year (I think it was 2006 or 2007, would have to look up study), it was enough to cover all necessary stuff and some small luxuries. It’s nothing to do with the number 70k so if we can reduce the cost of it that’s great. It’s all about covering necessary stuff and a little extra. If that’s made you are about as happy as money can buy. To get more happy you need stuff that you can’t buy, see my other reply for examples.

I’d argue that if i could buy my own home server i would be happy, so that means…money bought me happyness

Yeah you would because it means you accomplished a goal you set. The server doesn’t really matter and the happiness doesn’t last. Next for example you want to setup jellyfin. You get that done and get a bit more happiness. And the cycle continues.

Doesn’t really matter here tho, also, i would kinda continue to be happy because now i will have a great time settin up the server, using all the services and maybe even playin with my friends in my minecraft server
