Announce to do plans on day X and whoever shows up, is there. Just need a group 50% bigger than you need for the event.
Have tried that with a large group. I discovered that the one thing worse than having nobody show up to your party is having only one person show to witness the failure, to whom you don’t relate, and she’s on a diet and drove, so she can’t drink or help eat the overabundance of finger foods.
