The important part:
So, we’ve eliminated DNS query fees entirely.
Bunny DNS no longer charges for DNS queries and includes free DNS hosting for up to 500 domains per account. There are no query limits, no per-request billing, and no critical features hidden behind enterprise plans. (Yes, that includes smart records and health monitoring too.)
As with all bunny.net services, accounts using the platform are subject to our standard $1/month minimum spend, but DNS itself no longer incurs any usage-based charges.
Basically it costs $1 per month. They no longer charge per requests, it’s now unlimited.
Who are they?
Bunny is a European CDN provider, eg. Cloudflare/Akamai but headquartered in Slovenia, Europe
You can read more about it here:
https://europeanpurpose.com/tool/bunny-net
However funnily enough I noticed:
PING europeanpurpose.com (54.253.94.210) 56(84) bytes of data.
whois 54.253.94.210
Organization: Amazon Technologies Inc. (AT-88-Z)
I always love it when “Helping you find privacy-focused European alternatives to popular digital services.” is itself hosted on Amazon, what a joke
If it’s free, you’re the product.
The other response already clarified why its not free but there’s also a $1 USD min spend per month to have an account on their platform meaning it’s $1 USD/mo at minimum. It’s just free if you’re already spending that with them
After reading the link, it looks like it’s not a free product, they’re mostly trying to smooth out surprise traffic increases from generating unexpectedly high bills.
My theory is that is the result of complaints from customers after they get a visit from AI crawlers
I’ve used them until last week when I switched back to cloudflare because I lost my bunny.net 2FA and couldn’t be bothered to ask them about it as it might require IDs and such.
They are fast and good ,no complaints. I might go back with another account as using Cloudflare doesn’t make me happy as an European.
