It’s a shame PC won’t be getting any more PS games, but I certainly won’t be running out to buy a PS any time soon. There is more than enough on PC to keep me busy for ten lifetimes.

Same. I never bothered with the series X and don’t feel like I’ve missed anything. I’m gaming on Mac Mini now. There’s lots of games that run natively on Mac and most windows games run through crossover and if they don’t, meh.

I’m hoping someone tells me how to install Steam OS on an Xbox One X though…

I mean why bother getting a console. how many exclusives does the PS5 have? 25. Plus the damn thing overheats more than the original 360. there’s a youtube tech repair guy I follow and many of his posts are about customers bringing in PS5’s that have overheated. hell today he had a youtube short up about all the overheated ps5’s he’s got in his backroom. why bother?

I have a gaming PC, and there is a ps5 (wife’s) in my house. i won’t touch the ps5. I have bought multiple Sony titles on Steam… I’ll never buy one for the ps5. This was disappointing to hear, but I won’t reward them for a business decision I disagree with.

The logic, as Layden explains, was to mindshare with PC players. Why? Because PlayStation wanted their IPs to matter beyond video games, through mediums like TV, film, comics, merchandise, and other media.

Yeah what good is a franchise if nobody engages with it?

I mean, PlayStation has a big audience, they’re not nobody, but if you wanted to do a Jak and Daxter movie, you’d benefit from more people being fans.

But also, PC gamers will act with hostility when you insult or spurn them. It’s what Epic did wrong, it’s what XBox did wrong, there are countless examples.

I don’t really see the point of a console exclusive, the model of release to console then bring it to PC where there are myriad configurations to plan for just makes sense. Console players are happy, PC players are mostly happy. You sell more games.

Exactly. He understood it. I never had a Playstation, and probably never will. Unfortunate for some of the cool games they made. But there are a plethora more for PC I like. So it’s neither a reason to buy the console, nor a big loss.

I would be shocked that low revenue is the reason why Sony is pulling back from PC. I rather suspect it’s optics tied to brand value rather than purely dollar value from a second platform

The PC version of every single Sony title runs better than on original hardware. The reasons for this are numerous, but it looks pretty bad for hardware sales if the software you design, running on the hardware you designed is the inferior experience.

On top of that, it’s a cold reality that piracy is simply easier on PC than console. The numbers here are probably not enough to matter for purely accounting reasons, but execs like it if that number goes down.

In the Japanese domestic market, consoles are king by far. It’s better than when I came a decade ago, but PC Gaming is still an expensive, niche hobby here. I don’t know what percentage of their market and revenue are domestic vs. foreign and if that matters, but I can’t help but think they looked at the domestic market a lot when deciding to do this.
