I’m on my phone which runs Android, so technically I am also using Linux

My parents started using Linux because of me! Their computer died, so I got them a used Thinkpad and a docker, put Mint on it, and now my father can browse the internet again.
I just don’t wanna risk messing my stuff up. I’ve heard many multiplayer games with anti cheats don’t work. Plus, I have lot and lots of data and files on my computer I don’t want to risk.
Not to mention the terminal makes absolutely no sense unless you memorize a bunch of weird abbreviations
You can just keep your old system, no need to switch everything at once.
Or just put all your data on a external drive to make sure.
Most games work…the few anti cheat ones wont be missed for that anti cheat is basically a trojan and hence not ethical software.
You dont need the terminal…but as a protogen u should come natural to you to use it if u need :P
I use JS not whatever the terminal is :(
If u can js already then dont fear bash its way more easy than js, u can do it and looking stuff up sometimes is is also fully normal. In fact that makes linux kinda neat instead of fighting menues and trying to find the right setting for a thing…google usualy just spits out a oneliner u can just drop in the terminal and your problem is solved :D
Reminds me of when I saw that Dankpods video about switching to linux. He thought you absolutely need the terminal. But thankfully on most modern distros you can use something like Synaptic or another package manager. Or just use an installer like on windows. Usually a .deb or .rpm file depending on distro.
I get it. Im pretty techy and I have an old laptop running windows because I can’t get a solid state drive to redo a particular setup I have. Actually want to have two to backup another thing. I still use linux though and you don’t really need to do any command line. At least no more than you do with windows. My recommendation is when you get a new windows machine go stick linux on the old one. You will be amazed at how much faster you old machine runs under linux and how much less resources it takes up to do the same activity. If you want an easy one to get going out of the box I recommend zorin but if gaming is a priority then bazzite.
Well I’ve been using my desktop for a few years now. A new machine is not on the horizon for me.
I guess what you do is just copy everything onto a hard drive and then install Linux or something? I still want to be able to play games like Rainbow 6 Siege, and I’ve heard a little bit about dual-booting or something?
no again since I have my old machine I just install over the whole thing. I move files and such though that I need. its kinda funny but one thing keeping me from sunsetting the windows is getting an external drive which have become expensive at a time when I have zero disposable income. sigh.
