It’s hard to tell, the article is poorly written. There’s something about an Australian guy getting arrested at LAX, not sure if that’s related to what happened in LV or not.
At any rate, it’s kinda stupid to arrest someone at an airport even before they’ve gone through security. They’re likely leaving the country and will have to present themselves to a customs official anyway. Instead of wasting money on prosecuting someone that overstayed, it’s better just to let them leave, maybe charge them a fine or whatever.
Uhm, they were trying to arrest him at the international terminal? International terminals are Sterile Zones, where departing passengers have formally exited the country. That’s pretty much like ICE arresting someone while they’re physically in Mexico.
