Hi Everyone,

Sorry for the delay on getting this up, got a bit busy with work and family. Below are the main options I saw mentioned in the other post as well as a brief overview of the instance.

I’ll create a comment for each option to vote on and feel free to add any instance if you want to include it.

I think we can plan to make the move prior to the season start just to give the offseason for voting but I’m open to changing that if others feel differently!

There were a couple recommendations for this one since it stays federated with most instances which I think would be good for a sports community.

Similarly there were recommendations for this one since it’s stable and pretty open. I know a couple members of the mod team are on this one as well which I think helps with mod log notifications which thankfully we haven’t had to worry about too much so far.

Piefed.zip or Piefed.ca

Piefed is different from Lemmy but they both communicate with each other so people don’t have to worry about creating new accounts.

Piefed can apparently do community flairs so we could do team flairs which would be a nice addition. Think polls is also a feature.

There has been some drama with Piefeds creator though. I’m not technical enough to know how much that would impact specific instances but just figured I’d make people aware.

    Hey there, I am new to Lemmy and I was looking for Basketball communities. I found this one and nba@nba.space, which has only a couple of people posting (I think). Any drama there?

      I love the idea of team flair, I think it would add a lot to the community. Idk anything about this “controversy” and honestly don’t have the time or want to look into it, my opinion could change because of it but ¯(ツ)/¯

        Geez, LW defederated from ML? I missed that. Team flairs would be cool. I prefer the lemmy online UI over the piefed one, but I’d access this community through my lemmy.ca account, so that’s a null point. .zip has cloudflare on all files and/or posts, which makes viewing those posts more cumbersome for me- there’s a captcha (unlike most Lemmy/PieFed servers; but I use LibreWolf). Idk if there’d be an anti-Canada sentiment among US users for .ca

        .Zip’s Newcomers page primarily points to a resource developed by the .ca admin. Their Announcements and Home pages feature what looks like AI slop images.

        I think .ca is well-admined. I’ve been a pretty heavy user for 3 years and am now a proud donator :D.

          I think I’m wrong about that, again don’t quote me on any of this. But from what I remember LW has defederated from a bunch of other instances and that’s what OP has a problem with. I don’t follow all the “politics” with Lemmy so I can’t explain further.

          OP made a post about it not long ago, you can search their history for more answers maybe?

    Don’t care about Piefed one way or the other but team flairs is a generally great idea for sports communities imo
