The court ruled that a lower standard applies to manual searches, allowing the government to conduct extraordinarily invasive electronic device searches without any suspicion of wrongdoing, simply because the border officer chooses to search by hand rather than with a forensic tool.

    The best defense for this is still just having a secondary phone (with pictures from your recent cross-border vacation on it) and nothing else. If the jack-booted dummy asks why no email or IG or whatever simply say “I was on vacation…from all that.”
