I kind of live under a rock and usually avoid social media apps. I recently heard that hating on Argentina is a massive trend right now though… is this actually a thing? I even read a comment saying “Argentina is the Israel of latam” lmao

Just for fun if Argentina is the Israel of latam… what does that make the other latam countries?

Most of the countries in charge of this english-language discourse have a massively higher approval rating for Zionism than Argentina. They’re also the countries which have saddled the Argentinian people with Milei, which these same people point to as an indicator of national consciousness. On top of that it is amusing the way they project American perceptions of race globally. Online Brits do it for some reason

It’s an online thing. The grass is Twitter

I really do not believe it’s any kind of psyop, or anything major like a lot of ppl are in here making it seem. We are so used to seeing hate for a country be backed by feds movements and capitalist propaganda that we forget how easily people get whipped up onto a frenzy over something much simpler and far less sinister.

I am almost all but certain the real reason behind the uprise in Argentina hate is right now is because… Fucking sportsball. It’s been all over the news, reddit, etc for the past week or two. The Argentina football team has had several instances of being absolute shit heels. It’s apparently a pretty consistent thing but this year it’s gained a ton of attention and the media really went hard into it. And so many people are so ingrained into their tribalism that when they see one small group from a certain country, they equate everyone in that country to that behavior. That’s what’s happened. That’s why it’s such a big deal right now. They are constantly being bombarded with clips of this team being absolute asshole and getting away with it. Then the media leans into it because it gets clicks. They take any instance of an Argentina fan being shitty and post it everywhere and before long, people start just start assuming all Argentina is like this.

This is why I don’t think it’s anything sinister. This is just how people operate. It’s always been this way. “A few people that are different then me did a bad thing and so I now assume all those people from that place are bad.”

It’s a stupid psyop intended to isolate Argentina. If we were to condemn a global south countries on the basis of being racist, we would have to condemn every single one. Underdeveloped nations are not developed on social policy, who would’ve thought!

It’s a possibility, but that doesn’t explain why they acted like idiots and didn’t stop the hateful comments online

it’s probably hating memery related to the world cup imo…

Argentina is the Israel of latam

even when i despise that pelotudo they have as president, i don’t think they deserve being shaheeded. hell, they gave us the tango, el diego, dulce de leche, that episode of TADC, the eternauta, che guevara, and i’m still needing to taste yerba mate to see if it’s good

Err… Argentina is not the birth place of “dulce de leche”, we’ve been doing “doce de leite” in Brazil for ages, before Argentina claimed it as a national dish. However, it’s very probable that it was brought to the Americas from elsewhere, like Indonesia.

However, let’s not forget that Argentina gave us the best Trotskyist theoretical current, Posadism. Comrades, we need communism to reach the stars and build our interplanetary civilization, so that we can meet our other communist comrades that thrive in distant galaxies. We also need to promote interplanetarism in our program to help spread communism in planets that are still being driven back by other lesser modes of production.

Edit: Yerba matte is good, but it resembles regular green tea. We used to cultivate it and consume it as alternative to herbs brought from India, as not all of them adapted to our climate. BTW, the Gaucho culture spans from Argentinian Pampas, to Southern Brazil and Uruguay. The Gauchos also have the best barbecue, better than Porteño barbecue.

Naa, it’s just because of their reaction to the criticism at the World Cup… apparently the organization gave them some advantages, but if you told them something they would act like victims.

yes, it’s black people and other minorities warning each other about racism. some of our comrades are failing by saying it’s “americans” or “brits” saying this. they mean black people (because nobody else gives a shit about argentina’s racism) but they either don’t understand it that way or have some chauvinistic/nazbol/racist tendencies they don’t want to admit in this community.

That’s part of it, and it’s good that Argentina’s racist history and present is being exposed and that people are warning eachother about it. I’ve seen too much racist behavior from Argentinians to ignore it. But I’ve also seen a lot of white people from Europe or North America complaining about Argentina’s racism while ignoring their own. I agree that Argentina is racist, but white people use it to excuse racism against Argentinians, claiming they’re all violent. With this they’re throwing black and indigenous Argentines under the bus who are fighting against the racism in their country.

        To be less obtuse:

        • internal colonization struggles with the indigenous

        • internally stratified between metropoles & areas that are so undeveloped they are practically feudal

        • facilitates extraction from surrounding regions to metropoles in imperialist countries

        • army & major parts of the state apparatus are locked into this, hence lula getting in hot water for weapons shipments to israel that were ordered under bolsonaro. the risk of military coup is used by socdems to justify being softhanded

        • racial caste system (okay here is where india (india is worse in almost every way) is most distinctly worse but I’d rather not talk about gross stuff actually even though I may have an off-kilter sense of what is gross)

          Gross:

          • racism

          • torture

          • women stuff

          • war crimes

          • saying mean things

          Not gross:

          • sea of pure blood extending forever encompassing everything and everyone

          • sea of deep clear water holding it back keeping it safe from exhausting its food supply

          • war itself

          • exquisite slander

          • the truth
