What I find most impressive here is actually how fast that 26 MB file loaded. Is that just thanks to the fact that the file seems to be served from your own self-hosted hardware instead of from some public service like Lemmy, Imgur, Catbox, etc.?
The gif was too big for lemmy and piefed, and catbox.moe is disallowing uploads publicly right now. I was nervous hosting a large file like this on my home websever, but it does seem to be working really well. It is on a home internet connection (symmetrical 1gb fiber). The server itself is a OrangePI (so very light/small). I assume it’s just lack of contention.
Edit: cloudflare is also acting as a CDN
