For shits and giggles, I copy my writings into those AI detection stuff and it’s really bad. There are a few websites that let you do these tests. Then there’s the one guy who pasted the Constitution into a AI detection tool and it said it was clearly AI.

I think these tools are a money sink for schools and resources can be better allocated elsewhere.

i’d be shocked if it’s tens. people should really talk to their professors. unless it’s basically open and shut, no one is going to see a disciplinary hearing.

and even in those meetings, actually failing a student is often not the outcome.

from what i’ve seen at least half of students cheat now, and it is a tiny, tiny fraction that face any consequences.

I mean, that’s largely on the educational establishment like the college or uni too.

My education provider uses that TurnItIn bollocks - but even if a script is flagged as high risk for generative AI or plaigarism, it just gets marked for review rather than graded.

A human in the loop is absolutely essential for these tasks. It would appear that tools like TurnItIn will only really catch the most egregious of Ctrl-C Ctrl-V’ers, but any establishment that grades using AI only deserves all the shit they get.

My provider already uses overworked and underpaid lecturers to provide substandard feedback on my assessments as it is, I’d hate for the boat to sink any further.
