My opinion is all socks are dangerous until they have been thoroughly proven inanimate through an elaborate process of tossing about and studying the concomitant motion to determine whether that motion is in fact stochaistic or reveals a hidden will, a mysterious intent, a dark autonomy.
You can not be too careful with socks.
In other news:
I’m doing a new thing: when someone “corrects” me on Lemmy with information I already know or never disagreed with, I simply reply “Yes.”
Examples:
Me: “ICE can track you with telemetry data provided by cellular providers.”
Correction: “Tracking is different than scanning!”
Me: “Yes.”
Me: “I like what this other guy said about that: blah blah blah. – Some other guy”
Correction: “That’s a different guy.”
Me: “Yes.”
Person A: “Thing is X.”
Me: “It is also Y.”
Correction: “But thing is X.”
Me: "Yes.¨
Etc, etc., etc., daily
Why bother responding? I do the same but I just think “yes.” in my head and don’t write a reply.
Because people are stupid and they’ll accept the faulty premise the reply is based on uncritically, especially if it’s a hivemind hotspot. In my second example, someone quoted an Arab-American politician. I quoted another Arab-American politician on the same topic. The person correcting me assumed I can’t tell Arab-Americans apart and got them confused. By not replying, I’m leaving open that possibility in the minds of readers.
