The dog wants you to throw it, and when it returns it to you and your hand, you are allowed to touch it, but not allowed to take, without losing a feat of stength challenge, it until it is time to throw it again.
She’s taunting me with it.
I can only speak for my dog, but I think he wants me to want it. That way, whatever it is is special and he has it not me. So I pretend to want his slobery chewed up ball even though it’s gross and I should probably replace it soon.
My puppy forces the toy onto my feet or lap or hands until finally I wrestle it from him and throw it. He will not allow me to ignore his request.
My dog used to love pulling on rope toys and then one day he just stopped caring.
Now he picks up toys and just pushes them into my legs. I take them and he loses interest

It’s ok, the real tragedy is that he never learned fetch. He brings me a stick and chases it when I throw it but forgets about it by the time he gets there

excellently. she’s feral until she actually catches you with her teeth and then immediately starts licking until you get her going again. she loves being tossed gently around and will try to tackle you at the knees. the other dog is busy chasing her tail, then if the first dog wasn’t distracted by that she’ll get involved and sit on my feet to protect me or something, then they both go do laps of the yard.
they trot around both holding the same toy/stick which is adorable
they’re okay at fetch, and one of them knows how to pick up her toys after herself (if she’s told)
We kinda do the same to them though, so they are just copying us.

Toddlers are similar. They want to do something they are not able to yet and are crying for you. But you are not allowed to touch anything or say anything.
Dogs who play keep away usually learned it from their humans.

Most dogs, when they play keep away- you know, coming close but not quite letting you get the toy- learned to play that way from their humans.
Usually when humans trade them or play keep away first, or like faking a toss, etc. dogs play differently with humans than they do other dogs, and they learn the rules from you.
Buy the want you to try to touch it take it or participate… I forgot the rest
