I wrote a blog about the harmful effects of short-form content on our brains.

This is not a promotion or something. The site is free from trackers or affiliated links. It’s just a pure blog written by me.

I have not found a way to block YouTube short on mobile, but on computer (Firefox) I installed the addon tampermonkey. This addon allows custom script, and smart people have written scripts (GitHub) to block any form of yt-shorts.

    It works

I am using the YouTube Tweak extension on Firefox, which has a lot of options, including hiding shorts.

On mobile I am using PipePipe and YouTube Morphe for that.

NewPipe application only shows videos, never shorts unless you go into the shorts section on someones channel.

I honestly love NewPipe and the way it pulls the latest videos from your subscriptions, it really ensures you don’t fall into algorithmic viewing because of the first thing which shows up when you open the app.

Also want to shout out PipePipe, which adds plenty more features as a fork from Newpipe, including:

        • SponsorBlock
        • Video tab configuration
        • Channel tab configuration
        • The ability to filter shorts, paid content and future items from your feed, search results and channel pages.

I recommend FreeTube, I believe you can hide shorts there and adjust recommendations etc. It’s not super-reliable because YouTube keeps changing its backend, but when it works it’s really neat
