Annoyingly, Nazis stole each one of their slogans. “Arbeit macht frei” is from the 1873 novel by Lorenz Diefenbach, in which gamblers and fraudsters find the path to virtue through labour, alluding to John 8:31–32.
Yeah they don’t exactly have a lot of creativity of their own. But much like the swastika and certain tunes, it’s now associated with nazis rather than its original source
