Toyota has launched a paid service that allows GR Yaris and GR Corolla owners to add a cooling function for the electronic control system of their car via a smartphone app.
No…not Toyota too…
The writing was on the wall when Toyota pushed back against EVs really hard as they championed hydrogen and hybrid vehicles. They made a hydrogen vehicle but there are almost no hydrogen refueling locations. Toyota has been hooked on classic combustion since the beginning.

They sold the first hybrids in 1997.
So, people need to pay monthly, or their car catches fire?
Cool beans. What will they think of next?
They’re already planning to have self-driving cars drive themselves to impound if you miss a payment. I suppose they could do that for plenty of other reasons, too. Like if you modify the car in some way against TOS, or if they decide they want it back to add to their fleet of robotaxis because that would be more profitable for them.
Anything you can add over the air, I stangely don’t want.
Is it related to the problem where those cars would randomly catch fire?
Toyota’s gonna down the shitter too.
What are we left with? Any decent brands left?
Weren’t they one of the original “we charge for remote start” people that after pushback decided all cars will come with 10 years of remote start before you have to pay or something?
Well Slate hasn’t launched yet so we dont know how they plan to enshitify. But so far they have the right idea, telemetics is optional physical hardware that is sold separate.
