Honestly that may be the entire point of this. The right wingers are trying to carve out their own corner in the world of FOSS. Understandable given the spirit of open source is literally the antithesis of what they believe in, however they also can’t ignore it now cause it’s vital infrastructure.

People who have raised money before are better at raising money. Not that I fully understand why they throw so much at this project. But I don’t also quite understand why some projects get billions just like that.
networking plays a big roll in such things. the more connections you have, the more possibilities. in my job that is normal as well ( not for donations, but it’s important to get a job)
Okay I’m seeing further chicanery. Their GitHub repo gives the license as MIT but many of the components are not Omarchy originals but derivatives of other products under different licences. Quickshell is LGPL 3, for example, and of course the Linux kernel is GPL 2.
But then there’s a guy working on the “Omarchy Kernel”, which I guess is a derivative like Ubuntu does…
Personalities aside this is still weird, and I wish people would focus on that.
I don’t think that matters here. NixOS is also MIT licensed.

Omarchy is an Arch-based Linux distribution created by a person with questionable political views. Many in the Linux community will go great lengths to ensure not a single penny of theirs gets into his hands.

It makes gatekeeper types in the Linux ecosystem happy, because it preinstalls you neovim, hyperland, and a bunch of bloatware, so they can get to their tinkering much faster.
There are literally fascist free Arch distros like CachyOS, Garuda Linux, and EndeavourOS which make it easier to access and utilize the power of Arch. Without the vibe-coded nonsense, streamlining of customization that allows experienced computer users get right into a working, configured system that allows for greater customization. Hell, someone is working on an immutable version of Arch called ShaniOS that makes it dead simple to use, safe, just as stable. So that updates can’t break your system. It is looking like a great work in progress. One could use LITERALLY anything other than a fascist chud made and supported distro like Omarchy. But sure, call concerned people “gatekeeper types in the Linux ecosystem”. The reason why people are ringing alarm bells about DHH and other associated weirdos is due to the growing prevalence of the idea that far right weirdos are using open source as a method to normalize their deranged ideas. Reducing that very valid concern to “gatekeeping” is just not it.

GoPro was kinda washed… They had huge success early but they thoroughly over-saturated their own market and then stagnated in the face of competition. Maybe about a week ago announced they were now an AI/datacenter company…

A youtuber with a large following bought a substantial share in GoPro. I think it is is a comment on how immature stans are subservient to their para-social relationships and throw their money at men they idealise instead of working to improve themselves. Comparing Markiplier with DHH is really unfair to Markiplier but its all the same weak minded exploitable herd behaviour.
