    23 years ago, I wrote a mapping engine using image maps and clickable gifs. I had it to the point where I could draw a country with roads, towns and labels, you could zoom in and out, and I dealt with the different types of projections.

    Then Google Maps came out.

    I definitely forgot all about image maps. I never used ismap, but usemap with <area> and a list of boundaries with a link.
