Well shits to expensive and I’m finally home enough so I’m learning to cook. Turns out when your not being constantly criticized for existing, cooking isn’t nearly as terrible! (Trauma made me hate cooking).

So far I’ve been keeping it very simple. Store bought pasta, store bought sauce, put them together, that kind of thing. I think I’m getting ready to branch out and learn more.

I’d love to hear some things from those of you who know your way around the kitchen. If you have a recipe you love or, a story to tell or, a warning you learned the hard way or, a great website/cookbook/youtube channel or, anything else you feel like sharing.

I’m just here to learn some stuff, hear some stories and get some ideas to try. Thanks for having a fun cooking convo with me!

I’ve actually given up on using a rice cooker, turns out it’s incredibly simple to cook rice in a pot. Do the same 2:1 ratio water:cup of rice, bring it to a boil, once it boils drop the temp to a simmer and put the lid on. That’s it. Rice is cooked perfectly in like 10 mins.

      That’s it

That’s still more effort than I need to make rice:

      • Put rice in cooker
      • Fill water to corresponding line
      • Press a single button
      • Forget about it and come back to find perfectly cooked rice

You’re absolutely right, as long as you don’t walk away and forget you’re cooking rice. But that’s true of any cooking.

I was against rice cookers for a long time because teflon. We were gifted a zojirushi for our wedding, but it quickly broke so I had my way for another several years. Last year we got a tatung cooker with a stainless steel pot, and I haven’t looked back once. It cooks rice better than I can, and it barely sticks (if you give it the time it needs)
