Sega makes Sonic games like they want to cancel it.
I have a lot of nostalgia and love for Sega by damn do they make it difficult for themselves!
the first movie that everyone revolted upon seeing the initial character art? Literally bullying and loudly badmouthing how terrible it was going to be? And it cost them millions to redesign and render? Only for it to comeout and be yet another mid af game adaptation?
That’s what saved it?
I mean it was popular enough to get two sequels, with the third movie being the best in the series imo.
There is already another in the pipeline: Sonic 4 due out March 17, 2027.
Good enough to get another two movies. Compare to the game which haven’t seen anything good for years.
It doesn’t have to be a good movie to be true… personally I think it’s more than fine for a Sonic movie.
320 million, 400 mil and then almost 500 shows that people are watching and staying for the next too.
Yeah, I think that first movie was a decent movie that happened to have Sonic in it. Then the sequels slowly started to become Sonic movies. The third movie is the best of the three because it leans into the Sonic elements and moves away from the cliche “talking animal in real world” tropes that the first movie relied on and the second movie took way too far.
You know, I never thought about it, but you’re right. In the third movie, literally no one is asking why there are anthropomorphic animals that look like they jumped right out of a cartoon; even in the flashback scenes that take place pre-Sonic’s arrival to Earth. It really does help make it feel like it “should” be happening if that makes sense.
Plus the third one was absolutely just fan service for people who grew up on Sonic Adventure 2, but it worked so well imo. Hearing Live & Learn during that final battle was fucking awesome. And Agent Stone is probably the best new Sonic character since Shadow.
I still think that was intentional to get people talking about the movie. They had a ‘fixed’ version out super quick
Sega is the only company that can constantly and consistently keep falling into a barrel full of thumbs and some how come out sucking tits. Of course they wanted to cancel Sonic, just another one of the decisions in a line of notoriously bad Sega decisions.
