That fan is not better than this.
I think this might be a regional euphemism thing. Like when Southern people say “Bless Their Heart” instead of “Fuck that guy”. “I know you’re are better than this” is a polite and inviting way of saying “No way you’re that ignorant”.
I like thinking of it as, “if you’re really not better than this, pretend you are because that’s embarrassing for you and all your friends”
I’ve always thought of it like “you are a human and there is potential in all of us to be better, especially you with this”

True, but the point is that it shouldn’t matter even if it was just random choice. None of anyone else’s business.
Eeehhh… though I agree with the sentiment, I think differentiating that being trans isn’t a choice still very much matters, even in this context.
The choices that people refer to usually when it comes to gender lie more in how one chooses to present their innate self and what forms of care they choose to engage in to affirm that presentation (i.e. gender affirming presentations/care in this context).
Instead, hateful bigots, transphobes etc. mistake the choice of presentation of gender for the supposed “choice” of identity.
Trans people have to navigate a society that continually tells them they are lying to themselves and “choosing” to be someone society says they cannot be. This is genuinely tragic and horrible.
No one should ever be made to feel excluded or so alienated from the society they live in as to wish they were not the identity they know themselves innately to be. That is akin to effectively killing them, and that is why these hateful ideologies need to be put in the grave.
