Hooray for the wildcat! Must be so exhilarating to see them in the cairngorms, crossing the spey no less!
This is a good thing, obviously, but the article calls wildcats ‘the last native cat still living in the wild in Britain’, but I thought they were the only native cat species that has ever lived in Britain?
Edit: okay, so I was wrong, apparently we also used to have lynxes until the 17th century.
Pretty sure the sabre toothed tiger used to frequent the british isles too at some stage
I don’t know if they count as isles back then, doggerland and that (I was specifically thinking about how the European lion probably didn’t live as far north or west enough to have been native to the UK)
That’s the one! There is some interest in re-introducing them, and there was a whole thing last year with someone releasing a couple of them illegally
