I’m getting fucking sick of this orange fuck lying and causing the United States to fall behind. END THE TARIFFS. If you don’t vote you’re a part of the problem.
Had mine done the day it arrived.
Hell yeah man. Social isolation of anyone willing to act like any of this shit is even NORMAL. Shame is literally the only thing these sociopathic fucks care about
Voted my mail in ballot and already dropped it off. Dem all the way down. Fuck the republicans.
And don’t try telling me Dems are just as bad somehow or that this is just voting for the lesser evil.
Fuck anyone if you think that. If you do, you’re part of the reason we’re in this shitshow right now.
Dems arent “good”, Democratic socialists are actually keeping their promises, so vote for them if you have one in your area. But if you can’t tell that the democratic party is a million times the lesser evil then FUCK YOU. I’m in Utah so this Is literally the first time I’ve even had a shot at getting a lefty elected and I’m STOKED, even though it will probably be the most moderate dem imaginable
Dude, just voting for the lesser evil is good.
Like what do people want, the worse option just because fuck it? Makes no goddamn sense. Yes we all are voting for the lesser evil, that’s how politics works. It’s all varying degrees of evil and lots of shades of gray.
To be fair, there is some black and white in it. It’s pretty easy to say rounding up people based on how they look and putting them in concentration camps is BAD but apparently some people in our society are blind to that reality or (realistically) they’re bad people in their souls too.
I can’t imagine ever working for or wanting to work for ICE. These people are broken individuals who have embraced bullying and hate as their core identity. Fuck all of them.
But just remember, realistically we’re voting for nothing to get done. Mango Mussolini will still be sitting on his gold plated throne sending in federal agents to terrorize people, abusing the law and enriching himself and his friends and family.
What we’re hoping for is a Congress that will no longer accept this behavior. That will start reclaiming its constitutional authority and enforcing constitutional checks and balances. That we hope will stop the most egregious abuses of the office. But they’d have to work together to get anything actually done, to restore what’s been lost, to start moving forward again
Is there anything this Australian can do because this shit is affecting everyone.
YES. When you see obvious right-wing talking points parroted in comments that are clearly intended to discourage and/or create fear in American voters who may be reading – I’ve seen numerous low-key “it’s not really safe to vote” thrown in now – do two, maybe three things.
One, check the account age, and the time of the comment compared to your time zone. Not every bogus comment comes out of Eastern Europe, but a number of them do, they start and stop commenting at odd hours, and it’s something that you’ll note as you look deeper into suspect comments.
Two, point them out. Take the time to throw out a sentence or two that stops the next reader. You can look at my account history if you’d like to see how I do it. I often write long ones if I’m in the mood, but short ones are even more effective. All you need is a simple “Two day old doomer account. Blocked.” It gets the message across.
Three, if you don’t feel like arguing with bullshit artists who come back with lies pulled out of their ass in the fraction of the time and real effort it takes you to craft a simple truth, then block. If you really piss them off they’ll come back with alts, and of course prepare to be downvoted, but usually it shuts them up.
For as many of us voting Americans who deeply care about our country and are still brave enough to be online right now, you will be doing us all a service, as well as pointing out the form for those whose country the firehose of oligarch propaganda gets aimed at next.
…pointing out the form for those whose country the firehose of oligarch propaganda gets aimed at next.
Fuck.
That would be election interference unfortunately.
But you can still make sure the right-wing populist disease is contained to the US and doesn’t spread to your country
Surely that doesn’t extend to expressing my opinion or calling out fuckwits. We might not have a bill or rights in our constitution but we do have freedom of political expression. And just to be clear: I think that Trump is a bad person.
By all means, call them out. It’s election interference when you offer money for votes, when you pretend to be something you’re not, when your goal is chaos or disruption. Telling the truth should always be ok
Have you seen a rabid coyote desperately trying to fight with itself? Is there anything you can do to help?
Sure, you can keep your dog well away from the mess. Make sure your dog is caught up on rabies, distemper, and other vaccinations. Provide your dog a safe home where its needs are met
Well you could avoid US products if not doing so already.
I hear you. And fucking Israel too.
“vote if you are in the USA” is a little inaccurate. There are US voters abroad and there are people in the USA who don’t have voting rights.
And go organize! Get involved as an election observer if you’re safe to do so!
Meet your neighbors! Carpool together! Get involved in volunteering!
These times demand the best we can give them, so take good care of yourself and figure out how to get involved in caring about he people and issues around you as well
And, most importantly, vote early and in-person if you can. I normally vote by mail but can’t trust mail-in voting this time around, as there are just too many ways for the USPS to legally screw with the vote.
Same here. Even here in a deep blue state where I’m confident in the sanity of most of my fellow citizens …… it’s not worth the risk of them tampering with my vote.
It helps that my polling place is an easy walk so voting in person is mighty convenient
Mine is thankfully a short scoot away, and very near an excellent burger joint. My adopted grandma and I are going to early vote and then get lunch.
I hate people arguing over this. Yeah my thing is violation of the constitutions two almost most important protections. due process and search. which really the illegal search is about due process in its own way which is why it requires courts and warrants. regardelss im fine with anyone reminding and cajoling people to vote. we are essentially a one party system until the republicans go the way of the wigs.
Already did; Fuck Trump. Fuck Republicans.
HEAR, HEAR
Fuck the current administration
Fuck all republicans, and those who didn’t vote, who wanted this (or allowed this) to happen in the first place.
I’ve got my absentee ballot and I’ll be filling it out this evening and dropping it off at a mailbox by work when I go in.
What’s the thing people say
Trump isn’t the problem. He’s a symptom.
The US lost it’s position.
He’s a symptom of people not voting. VOTE.
He’s a symptom of the fact that people’s lives are not made meaningfully better no matter which party is in power nationally.
Our only power is local.
They don’t get meaningfully better indeed, but one of the two parties can and does make things meaningfully worse
Unfortunately if you’re a wage worker, that is patently false.
The only difference is presentation. Red fascist, blue fascist, nicer speeches mean nothing when you’re living out of your car.
half the people voted for him man, sure vote more nothing wrong with that but if people vote for trump that doesn’t make anything better either
The problem is that many people have learned that their life isn’t meaningfully made better no matter which side they vote for, so yes, a lot of people do not vote because there is effectively no point for them to miss a day of work. (Especially now.)
Bullshit. More of the “same sides” bullshit. If they don’t recognize how much better they have it with one of the parties, it’s all on short attention spans and trolls like this.
Consider ACA as the big one.
- It was mainly pushed through by one party, and over ten million people got health insurance that didn’t have it before. That’s a big deal.
- it’s been mainly rejected by the other party until now they effectively ended it, and ten million people lost health insurance. That’s a really big deal
Mate I am here, I can tell you the blue side is better but god damn do I understand how many times it feels pointless.
We have so many issues in this country that have been caused by bipartisan actions like flock cameras, the prison system, regulation of the rich it can be very easy for someone to look at things and not see how things change.
Needless to say you still need to vote blue but I don’t like this shit where we pretend this is happening for no reason. It makes my stomach churn the idea I may very soon have to vote between two transphobes as a trans woman and consequently making the dems go “Oh so being anti-trans is the right position!”
I’ll still vote Democrat, “for now.”
The ACA is the worst example, as one has to be able to absorb price gouging in order to access our system in the first place.
But sure. Keep gaslighting the poor. Worked great in 2024.
Sorry but that’s bullshit.
Dems have tried and succeeded to make lives better. When they haven’t its because they don’t have the seats to do it without Republicans. And because people keep voting in Republicans who have only ever made their lives worse because of this “both sides” there lives are far worse than if they’d kept voting only dem for 50 years.
If you range to move left, only vote for progressives in the primaries and never let the right win a they doubt cast about following laws and norms to break and hurt people
After the last two years, the “they’re just too powerless to do anything” excuse is evidently and objectively nonsense.
Voting Blue nationally has moved us toward fascism just as quickly as voting red. If nothing else, Donald has demonstrated aptly that the party in power is never powerless to make quick, lasting change.
He breaks the law every fucking day
It’s easy to break. Illegal fire people and they leave and never come back even when court rules it was illegal. That’s time and knowledge lost
Voting red, 3rd party or not voting is what had pushed us farther right.
The system is broken it takes a fraction of voters in smaller red states to control the majority in congress.
Hopefully the razor thin margins from gerrymandering will backfire and well have a massive blue win and finally have some sanity back.
Push for progressive people in the primaries, but never throw away your vote or don’t vote against fascism and the right. That is just stupid and costs millions of lives.
Voting red, 3rd party or not voting is what had pushed us farther right.
False, and I predicted it in September 2024, when Kamala Harris’ entire campaign was a meme about joy. What’s driving people to the right is the fact that they don’t have the time, energy, or money to do anything other than work three jobs for 100 hours a week and still can’t afford to rent an apartment. Blue MAGA has done just as much as Red MAGA to make this our reality, or have you forgotten how Obama stood by while the NYPD brutalized Occupy and declined to prosecute any of the bankers in 2008? (And instead rewarded them.)
Many of these people are old enough to remember when the world wasn’t like this, so not only are their lives empty, but they understand what’s been taken from them and are hopeless.
The only people who care are DSA’s, and Democrats have fought harder against DSA’s than they do against Republicans.
Half of the voters voted for him. More than half of the people sat on their thumbs and didn’t bother voting.
And you think all those thumb sitters wouldn’t vote for trump? At the very least they’ve shown they dont care and don’t have a problem with trump.
I guess we will never know.
This math seems kinda… worrisome…
Yeah I’ll be voting straight D down the line.
I guess you could say you really like the d.
I find it worrying that there are approximately 200x more people telling others to vote, than there are people telling others to take any other action on top of voting.
All while it’s publicly known that the election is being actively rigged, and would change close to nothing even if it wasn’t.
So yeah. If you feel safe doing so, absolutely go vote. But also please consider doing literally anything else aside from that. Even the smallest, slightest protests help.
Organized uprisings removed at least a few dozen totalitarian regimes. So far, voting has removed a grand total of 0. Call me a pessimist, but I’m betting it’ll stay at 0 for the foreseeable eternity.
So far, voting has removed a grand total of 0. Call me a pessimist, but I’m betting it’ll stay at 0 for the foreseeable eternity.
I’ll settle for calling you a willing liar. Contrary to all expectation, bloodless VOTING just kicked the very entrenched and very supported Viktor Orban out of Hungary this year. Do you need sources for that assertion, or no?
And stop suggesting it’s not physically safe to vote. Most of us have early voting, voting by mail and/or drop box despite efforts to make those unavailable, and troublemakers physically cannot spread out that far and that thin across every local site every day of the next four weeks. If they try, it will be on Election Day: they simply do not have the resources to mount more of an armed offense.
In addition, it is illegal by federal law as well as many states law to police within a certain radius of polling sites, meaning that even if the feds try it via ICE, states can shut that shit down themselves, and likely will because all those phone calls and emails to our reps that people like you say are useless are actually NOT: our leaders are feeling the heat, and they’re gonna feel it more. The rest of us are preparing: that shit will not succeed.
So you can just stop with the low key discouragement and fearmongering, right-wing talking point bullshit. It’s absolute crap on every level, and you obviously don’t live here and have never voted in the US or you’d know how it works and more importantly, which way the wind is blowing on the streets. Even South Carolina is in the mix to flip a Senate seat now, and I can’t think of a harder red state. You’re flatly wrong on all counts.
TL;DR: Anyone who wants these losers out of office, ignore this fearmongering doomerist shit from people who don’t even live here. It’s safe to vote – and too unsafe NOT to vote.
I’ll settle for calling you a willing liar. Contrary to all expectation, bloodless VOTING just kicked the very entrenched and very supported Viktor Orban out of Hungary this year.
To say it was just voting and nothing else would be manipulative. Quite conveniently, you left out the parts about mass protests and EU sanctions.
In addition, it is illegal by federal law as well as many states law to police within a certain radius of polling sites
How many illegal by federal and state law has this administration done in a year and a half? How many states took any meaningful steps to defend their citizens against ICE’s unlawful actions?
So you can just stop with the low key discouragement and fearmongering, right-wing talking point bullshit.
That’s a lot of words that never came out of my mouth. Unless you can quote specific parts of my comment where I discourage people from voting, try to sow fear in voters, or present right-wing points, quit lying.
I read that quote and immediately thought of Orban. The “both sides are the same, voting doesn’t matter” types are clueless, incurious people.
My message is simple: VOTE.
Vote AND do other stuff.
Sure, I already did “other stuff” by making this post, thanks for commenting and continuing the discussion. I also posted in the Illinois subreddit the first day that people could register to vote by mail.
I think the message is for the people that can’t even bring themselves to vote. Clearly if they aren’t voting, they aren’t going to do anything involving more effort. So the goal for them is to just get them to fill in some boxes and sign their name.
If this election is truly rigged and we descend further into fascism, then maybe we can work on getting them to go a little further.
