Only way to disable this is to open about:config and change some value. Why this has no dismiss button?

There is couple more settings that are on by default and i hate those; but mostly those are subjective. However who wants 80px long “SIGN IN SO WE STORE YOUR BOOKMARKS, HISTORY IN OUR SERVERS” stuff on their screen?

    is selected).

This way you can disable the whole “give control of your data to a pro-LLM enshitifying CEO”.

I switched to Librewolf a few years back now.

While you can do most of the modifications to vanilla Firefox yourself, That’s effort you gonna keep up with every update.

Also the LibreWolf devs dedication to scrapping off any Ai crud just becomes more important as Mozilla pushes it harder.

Yeah, i dont want to go through that every time i open my browser on my computer, i just want it to work. Im glad Librewolf is firm on this, makes me like them even more now.

Not sure why you wouldn’t. Exactly the same functionality without any of the BS. I’ve been using Librewolf and Fennec for years but still do the Firefox sync to make life easier.

          Exactly the same functionality

Not really. Builtin password manager is no more (which is a deal breaker to me) and all Ai related functionalities. While most Ai stuff is useless, I appreciate the offline translation of websites. The only Ai related functionality I use in Firefox. This one not a deal breaker, but its nice to have that I would miss it in Librewolf.

The AI part was in the “without any of the BS” part of my sentence. If you like AI features then use what you want.

Right, but then its no longer exactly the same functionality, because it removes a useful functionality. Even if all Ai features are BS for you, its still a useful functionality that is being removed, and therefore no longer “exactly the same functionality”. Because it is done offline on your machine and the results are pretty good from my experience. I use it often (translation). And there is no extension available integrated this well into the browser, doing the job this good and stays offline.

As someone else said firefox sync does work, but if you are using LibreWolf for privacy reasons that may not appeal to you. So, just as an alternative you can just open the passwords folder, and export a csv file with all of your passwords. Encrypt it and put it on a microsd card and stick it somewhere. Now you’ve got a backup of your passwords without needing to give them to firefox.

Firefox sync is end to end encrypted by the way: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sync

It is technically also self hostable, but I gave up when I was investigating. Hosting the sync server itself wasn’t too bad, but I couldn’t figure out how to also self host the account server, which is also needed to have the sync process entirely based on my own infrastructure.

Second that. I gave up also, and thought that mozilla could’ve made that part easier - if they wanted to.

Urgh, I was considering setting up a self hosted Firefox sync. I don’t use syncing at all currently but thought it might be useful.

I didn’t know the account system was a separate dependency. Hosting that seems a bit of burden so I think I will just stay not using sync.

I use syncing through Mozilla’s servers. Part of what killed my motivation for a self hosted setup was realizing that Mozilla sync is e2ee.

Why this has no dismiss button?

i dunno. it should. there’s another one a little deeper in the menus that does have a dismiss ‘X’ and it doesn’t come back after.
