    He didn’t know he was dead until the end, and then his spirit departs once he discovers the truth. Someone needs to rewatching the movie.

      Presumably the point of the OP was that Bruce Willis’ character could have been not going to work but wasted all that time doing so because he didn’t know he didn’t have to.

      Like if you or I suddenly became independently wealthy over night but didn’t realize because we didn’t check our balances, so we kept working; likely we would lament the time wasted at work after learning that it was unnecessary.

        Someone needs to rewatching the movie. When Bruce’s character realized he was dead, he didn’t lament working, rather acknowledging he had one last person to help before he could go.
