In his first-ever broadcast interview with Today, CEO Andrew Cathy dodged questions on Chick-fil-A’s longstanding homophobic views. “I think that everybody that would be willing to walk in the door, they’ll see that they’re welcome to come eat with us,” he said about the company’s position on equal rights.
“The good thing about capitalism is that I will take your money even though I hate you.”
I don’t have sources to cite, so take it however you will, but when I looked into this a few years ago, I found that the majority of fast food companies support more conservative than liberal organizations and with their political spending.
So while Chick-Fil-A got a lot of public attention… if you are ONLY boycotting them and not all the others, it is because you haven’t looked into who is doing what. This is not a criticism, just something to hopefully prod more into discussing the issue on a larger scale.
Everything is a choice. And things are very interconnected. It’s difficult to decide where to draw lines. For example, I boycott Harry Potter these days, but I have a bit more trouble boycotting Neil Gaiman. Others I avoid and yet others I minimize or don’t avoid. Purity tests are a choice, but they are weakened by ignorance about who all has done what.
By existing in modern society, we purchase most things that eventually are owned/created/provided by large corporations, most of which work against human rights.
So my point is: Pick and choose where your lines are, but if you do truly care, then you really have a lot of research to do or else your choices end up doing most of the harm you try to avoid.
And for the slower on the uptake: I am not arguing against boycotting Chick-Fil-A; rather, encouraging education as they are neither the only nor worst offender.
With you 100%. Basically everything makes me angry for one reason or another recently. You have to draw a line somewhere of how much grey you are willing to accept. If CFA is too much for you, you pretty much can’t eat fast food.
I just wish more people would boycott something. Talked to my dad recently about how much we both hate all the invasions of privacy by various companies, ten feet from his Alexa.
If I boycotted every company that supported Trump in my state we would starrve. All grocery stores and food places are 100% Trump.
These days it seems like it’s “boycott whoever hides their evil the least.”
You have to draw a line somewhere of how much grey you are willing to accept.
Well-said. Took me far more words to express that. lol.
If CFA is too much for you, you pretty much can’t eat fast food.
I didn’t want to put it so strongly, but yes, exactly that. But even beyond that, it’s most corporations. So many of them donate to “both sides”, especially politically, just because they care more about money than anything else, but the proponderance still seems to go more red than blue; more agaisnt human rights than for human rights.
Their shit isn’t actually that good, honestly.
Used to be better. And cheaper.
But what doesn’t fall in that category these days?
Yeah I really don’t understand the attraction. I got a free spicy sandwich and fries on a cancelled courier order one time so I ate it and was horrified at how little flavor a spicy chicken sandwich had. And the fries were just texture, they tasted like nothing.
You can taste the bigotry
I stopped going there years and years ago because you can’t get a spicy chicken sandwich. Here’s a slice of pepperjack cheese? Gringo ass chicken sandwich.
They definitely still have the spicy chicken sandwich though…
Do they season the chicken spicy finally or is it still just a slice of “spicy” cheese?
I grew up eating CFA, I like their food. There’s nostalgia but also I just like it. But I stopped going after I heard about their homophobia and will absolutely not go back until I have confirmation that they have changed their ways. Fuck them, fuck their Xian BS, fuck them twice on Sunday.
I am told it’s chicken cooked in pickle brine?
Soaked in brine prior to cooking.
salt-and-sugar brine, not pickle juice.
Omg that makes it even more funny that white people flock to it. It’s like they’ve never brined their chicken with a standard brine in their lives
Tbf, it’s very multicultural. Not the company values? But the food. There was one by my at my old place and it was all brown all the time. (I also lived in an area with a visible Latino population.)
I was being humorous
Racism isn’t humorous unless you’re a racist.
You’re a fucking tool
Cooked in peanut oil actually.
Hate the sinner, love their money.
Nope, never had it, never will.
Can’t say you’re missing out on anything
