Sorry but what is this nonsense, at least in the headline?

The far-right is, thanks to the stupidity of voters and massive influence campaigns paid for by the owner class, marching to victory in most countries around the globe. So what fucking ,last bastion" is mentioned here?

The nuance you are missing is that this culmination began with Hungary as the blueprint so if the blueprint just got kicked out the door by the people of Hungary when everyone thought it was unlikely what does that say about this current surge?

I don’t disagree with the spirit of what you are saying, but that is the nuance.

Okay, thanks! I hadn’t thought of it that way before. I understand that Hungary served as a testing ground for the New Right to establish an illegitimate democracy and thus attempt to consolidate power in the long term, while still appearing democratic to the outside world (edit: But wouldn’t Putins Russia be the original blue print for this regime?). However, I’m not sure to what extent, for example, the former Soviet republic of Hungary can be compared to an empire like the U.S. Aside from the dominant political current, I think there are far too many differences to equate the two… which is also generally why comparing countries based on a single aspect (and then, in the worst case, claiming that causal relationships can be inferred) is a fallacy I’d rather leave to the right.

I don’t think this article disputes that, the focus is on the ideological basis and blueprint for this rise in fascism/extremist rightwing movements… which was Orban’s Hungary.
