Most of my tech is US based currently, and I’m trying to change it. An example is moving from OpenAI (US) to Mistral (French).
Then I learnt from someone else that Mistral has significant US investment - more details provided below - output from Mistral.
I was wondering what views others had on this type of relationship? It has put me off Mistral to be honest.

Several of the investors in Mistral AI are based in the United States. These include:
- Andreessen Horowitz: A prominent venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, California.
- Lightspeed Venture Partners: Another major venture capital firm with headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
- General Catalyst: A venture capital firm headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- NVIDIA: A technology company known for its graphics processing units (GPUs), based in Santa Clara, California.
- Salesforce Ventures: The venture capital arm of Salesforce, headquartered in San Francisco, California.
These investors have contributed significantly to Mistral AI’s funding rounds, reflecting a strong interest in the AI sector from U.S.-based venture capital firms and technology companies.
Like the idea, but would have no clue how feasible something like that is.
I currently run LLMs locally using ollama, and through the terminal - I know most people would not either want or be able to do this, but I’m glad I have an alternative to the current popular AI services.
