Don’t cry for me Argentina, I’m not terribly torn up. But I did spend an abnormal amount of time on the rice, and it shows.
Sorry cause I’m really bad about measurements and generally just play it by ear. But the cabbage is a kinda slaw I made last night with cabbage(obviously, lol) shredded carrots, 3 pith in jalapeños, quarter of an onion, close of garlic minced, nubbin of ginger minced, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, fish sauce, and a small scoop of mayo.
Lentils were a little bit of leftover onion and clove of garlic minced, boiled with the water from the canned beets.
The rice was some long grain I rinsed until the water ran clear, let dry, toasted with neutral oil, towards the end of toasting it I put a clove of pressed garlic, garlic powder, pinch of salt, and onion powder and let it get fragrant. As soon as I added the water I found an old cube of chicken bullion I figured couldn’t hurt.
Everything was very good, but I’m especially proud of the rice!
Looks delicious, hope you feel better.😌
Yeah it all sounds yum especially the rice!
I’m sorry to hear about your break up, but still fueling your body with good, healthy food is so important. It’s one of the first things aside from sleep that get thrown out the window after something like this.
I’d eat that and more if there’s more. Great work, YiddishMcSquidish!
- Denial: bleeding red beets
- Anger: goddamn chopped cabbage and onions, shredded carrots, flaming jalapeños, and… take a deep breath… mayo
- Bargaining: comfort lentils
- Depression: obviously, the rice and whatever’s within arm’s reach
- Acceptance: posting it here
Sorry about the breakup. Congrats on making some delicious looking food!
As soon as I added the water I found an old cube of chicken bullion I figured couldn’t hurt.
Treating bullion a little like garlic is awesome, I approve haha
I’ve almost perfected my lazy risotto all milanese with powdered knorr bouillon. And I think I can recommend everyone put a small amount of whatever kinda bouillon you got in all your rice dishes.
You are my SIL’s kind of cook. She goes through a liter jar of chicken bouillon every other month.
I have a funk playlist that I listen to and scat to, and your username will be added to the scatting repertoire.
badaddabutada Ooh Yiddish McSquidish
badaddabutada They’re not at all skittish
badaddabutada They don’t follow Quidditch
badaddabutada It’s Yiddish McSquidish!
I know that’s not really scat, but I have fun with it.
There’s also a song called ‘Taxi to Bombay’ that became, and please don’t, ‘Text Me Your Butthole.’
Lol, I dig your kind of unhinged.
Wishing you speedy and healthy processing of emotions, and a delightful meal 🍻
🍻 thank you
Lovely looking food. Best of luck for your next chapter.
Even as a mostly meat and rice guy, that dish still looks really delicious. I want to say “enjoy”, but i can tell you already did. Nicely done!
same. would not turn it away.
Is this the new “dinner diaries” thing where people post shitty food and then tell their sob story? I thought we were above that sort of thing here in Lemmy.
McSquidish is a regular poster here. A little bit of personal color is just fine and helps keep this building in the direction of a community, not a lifeless recipe repository. My two cents.
Ok cool.
It’s taking the piss out of that. I thought it was from the photo but the post is actually about the food.
If cooking does start getting drama queen stories I’ll be blocking.
Oh! Haha
I think here on Lemmy, it’s okay enough to let people provide backstory to what they made. It’s not really like on Reddit where people are so incentivized to make up sob stories, and it might make things more personal in a way that’s not possible on larger social media.
Everyone kind of knows everyone, and if we start seeing 5 posts a day of “Dear Lemmy, my entire family has bone-itis, so I made bone broth in defiance of the horrible disease that took my sister last week. Please donate to [not a fake GoFundMe campaign] to support bone-itis research”, it’s always possible to ban it. Plus pretty much everything here shows up on the front page, so it’s not really outcompeting the other posts for attention that much.
I broadly empathize with your point – because I also saw Reddit turning into trash with every fourth post being “AITA”-style engagement bait – with the exceptions that a) I just don’t think it’s worth getting vocally upset about here unless it becomes common, and b) I beg to differ: the food in the OP looks yum.
Good points. Appreciate the levelheaded response.
If this space is going to be a popular, self sustaining, lively alternative to all the corporate, fascist owned , social media, then we have to accommodate all kinds of content. IMHO as long as it isn’t a bot, AI or a scam, let it be.
Oh, you and your reasonable takes!
